    2000 Golf Rally

    Hey everyone!

I'm thinking of buying a 2000 Golf Rally 1.6L I went to have a look at. The only issue for me atm is the accelerator pedal (auto). I find that it is too close to the right side where the plastic cover thing sticks out. When I move my foot from the brake to gas, it can be a hit or miss with the pedal, half foot going to the pedal, the other half on the plastic bit (I don't have big feet). Does anybody else have this issue?

Also I find the gas pedal a little low? And a bit hard to press (not very, just a bit). I've driven many cars and this is the first that I find to be a bit low and hard.

Cheers to anyone that can help me make my decision!

I have no issues but I have a manual so they might be different.
I can say that the pedals in MK4s are much better than other euros like Peugeot or Fiat. You need very skinny feet for those. A lot of other small cars don't have the left foot rest and I've not found one which has a right foot rest.

I have noticed a nice feature is that the brake pedal has an edge under on the right which stops your right foot coming off the accelerator and under the brake pedal.

I guess you're correct about the pedals. I've mostly driven Japanese cars so a bit different and much roomier down there with my foot rest. I just found it a bit dangerous as my foot went looking for the accelerator only to hit the side of the plastic thing. And it wasn't only me as my friend tested the car too and he had the same problem. Maybe I'm spoilt for more room?

It all comes down to familiarisation mate. When I first got my Mk4, I was in the same boat, coming from a manual hilux into a little euro hatch. I kept hitting the "footrest" on the right of the pedal when trying to accelerate, now it's fine. When I first tried to heel and toe in mine (it's a manual golf) i really struggled, now it's almost second nature.

    It all takes time....

Thanks for the reply gavs. That's exactly what I was looking for. My friend has a gti and said the same thing when I asked him. Anyway, have since bought a different car as there was something wrong with the golf - went there a second time to go for another drive and someone else was doing an RAC inspection at the time. They found a few issues with the car, some of which I had brought up at the initial inspection. Both of us have passed on the car. Too bad because it was a nice little car, felt like you could do anything in it!

    Cheers for the feedback guys!
