Hi
Had this problem with my 1.6L and it turned out to be faulty oxygen sensors. See if someone has a VAGCOM they can use on ur car or take it to a local mechanic they should be able to scan it for u cheaper then a vw dealer
Hi Guys.
Within the last week I have noticed that my Golf 2.0L has begun to jerk when hard acceleration is applied.
I have been away over Christmas for 2 weeks but filled the car up before I left. Just wandering if it could be stale fuel (didn't think fuel went stale that quickly) or if it could be fuel related?
Also I checked the oil level the other day and I am aware that the 2.0L is an oil burner so I will be topping that up tomorrow. Would this possibly have any thing to do with the problem. And just want to confirm that the oil to top it up with is 10W-40?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bruce.

'01 Mk4 Golf GL, Engine swapped to 1.8L GTi motor, Whiteline Swaybars, Nolathane & Pedders Bushes, K&N Oversize Pod Filter, 2 1/2 inch Cat back exhaust
If had this happen to my 2.0L golf aswell a few months back i changed oil and and filter and cleaned out all the air filter ect just a general service and it went away and ran much better as for oil im pretty sure you use 5w tho i didnt know this and put 20w in so id lose oil slower few months back
I had this happen over the last couple weeks - The throttle will be relatively unresponsive at low revs, then under open throttle the car will act like it's misfiring and loose power momentarily.
Yesterday i took out the maf and cleaned it, then cleaned up the throttle body and did a throttle body alignment. It feels like a different car.
But, i also noticed while logging a drive in vag-com that my Lambda sensor readings are not proportional to the other readings, so i might have a dead/dying O2 sensor.
I don't have any fault codes either.
best to have your codes read in case it's a misfire/real fault, in my case it was dirty maf with possibly the o2 sensor not running properly.
could be a number of things, and having one thing off (02 sensor) can show up as a error else where in some readings...
i'd say maf or o2 sensor most likely.
the fuel won't be stale after such a short time, and the oil won't make it behave like that. if it's low fuel pressure then you would notice it at other times like when you load the engine up driving up a hill.
