    12 liters/100 k's in a 2 liter? what the?

hey guys. im quite dumbfounded as to how i can be getting a ridiculous 12 liters to 100's out of my 2 liter golf at the moment, surely i should be getting better than that out of it. its not what you would call city driving but it is in the burbs.

it does smell like it is running rich occasionally and im about to go in for a service.

any advise on whats going on and maybe what i should ask at the mechanics when i go in?

Definitely sounds like MAF or temp sensor if it smells rich... Could also be injectors leaking... Take it to a mechanic for sure and do a vag com scan.

O2 sensors can also cause increased fuel consumption when they are out, but to a lesser degree, MAF more so.

    good luck

Maybe a liter is smaller than a litre ??

Seriously, I would love to get 12L/100 out of my 4motion around town

he's got a good point, I mean how much were you getting before ?

My 1.6L Golf used to eat around 9-91/2 L /100km in Melbourne traffic... the 2.0L will drink a bit more to be honest, but not much more as it does not work as hard as the 1.6 pulling the metal ..

    Hey Mitchy G,

Have the same prob with mine at the moment,

So far i have had the MAF replaced 685.80 including a new air filter and labour and gst etc.
temperature sensor $60 all up i think?
thermostat was 120 all up i think?
o2 sensor is going in friday

from what iv learnt i could be any of these, after u have been driving for 10mins is your temp guage reading 'vertical'? if not temp sensor and if that doesnt fix it thermostat.

apparntly running a diagnostic can show it as being a fault (in my case it was the o2 sensor) but it can show that from another part has failed or on the way out. what i did was replace part by part until we narrowed down the fault, all of mine really needed replaceing anyways, but it turns out the o2 sensor is what it is (atleast i hope so).

another though is also it could just be a fault logged, clear it and it might be fine, you can try discounting ur battery for 15mins, then reconnecting it, go for a 30min+ drive and see what happens. if the fuel goes back up, then theres prob a part in need of replacing.

if u want better prices i created a thread not long ago and some other guys gave info there, Have a look here
or if you want my exact costs for parts ill try find the reciepts for you.

    Good luck!

temp gauge reads a litte bellow vertical but almost after 5-10 minutes driving, it sits on cold the whole time then in the span of 30 seconds shoots up, is that normal? if so im guessing its not the temp gauge
