-1 degree outside, and my window drops...

    Hey Guys,

Start the car, and try to put the window down. Doesn't go down. Alright I say.

Other windows were having a bit of a whinge and didn't really want to move so I don't bother. Car warms up, thought I'd give it another go. Doesn't move again.

So... I get in and drive

Sheets of ice is flying off my windscreen. Can't really see jack all when I turn left and right, and a couple of minutes into the drive to work I get near my servo. So I try one more time.

    Movement ! YES !!!

    THEN...

The farken thing drops like a mofo and dissapears.

Drove to work with both windows down, because I'm not going to look like a knob with the passenger window down and all of them up. I thought, I'd look like I'm crazy, then look like a knob.

    My question is:

    • Is the window regulator caput ? OR:
    • Did my window decide to jump off the rail and attempt suicide but failed (the window didn't shatter, thank God)

Now, I have to pull the trim off the door on Saturday morning, and I know the regs die quite a bit on MK3's and MK4's, but what do you guys reckon happened.

VW have quoted me the regulator itself at $200 (no labour). They can stick a fast toy up their a !

Mate - your not having much luck are you...

I think there are plastic holders that do break and there is a kit which replaces them with metal ones. I'm sure someone else will chime in shortly to tell you about it...

Ring VW and demand the regulator repair kit. Its $120 retail. You can fit it yourself, they know what bits break and they are all in the kit. If you cant get hold of someone sensible at VW, let me know and I`ll get you one.

Does this problem affect the rear windows as well?
I know for sure one of my fronts was fixed before I got my Bora, just don't want the rest to go !

let me know where you end up getting your kit if you find somewhere cheaper than VW, i'm pretty worried this will happen to me one day soon... occassionally (mostly during hot weather), one of my windows doesn't roll down... so i will be needing one of these kits soon...

    Victory is mine !

My window was stuck to the frame with the glass, and the seats of the regulators were moving. When the ice melted, my window went flying down.

Lucky it didn't break. My tints are mashed, so will have to get it redone.

Pulled the trim off and yanked the window out, raised the regulators until they came into view with the door and then popped the window back in. It goes up alright, but when dropping it, one of the regulators slips out one third of the way down and it probably will drop or slide out. Window is sticking shut now.

Is there any sort of glue or bonding agent that can be used to stick the glass to the seat so it doesn't jump out again ?!?

    Saved myself a few quid.
