    Consumption

I'm not someone who feels the need to yank my own chain but I consistently get 7.3 l/100km combined and 6.8 with 80% highway driving in my 2000 mk4 1.6. I used to own a 1990 735iL that averaged 15-16 L/100km. With it's 100 L tank it cost WAY too much to fill.

    yeah, 1.6's aren't too bad

Syd - Brisvegas my 1.6 manual will drink around 7L/100kms with air con on for half the trip

Syd - Melbourne it'll do just under 7L/100.

Around town it'll do around 8.5L/100. Add air con and it'll drink around 10L/100 and the power falls off a cliff

Far better than the T3 Caravelle (also manual). Around 15L/100 in the city or highway. Dropped to around 13L/100 after a chip and lightening the valve train.

Thats pretty good for that drive your wife did. I'm wondering about the Commodore bit though. When I lived at Puckapunyal(95km North of Melbourne), I had a VS V6 and used to have to fill up at Phesants Nest on the way to Penrith(805km door to door, and we would get 700km to a tank)
I just drove from Townsville to Sydney Via 4 days of city driving in Brisbane(with a rather sprited drive over Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious), during which I covered 2875km, filled up 6 times with BP Ultimate, and got 8.0L/100 for the entire trip. Lowest I saw was 6.8L/100 on one tank. Alot of this was with the A/C on too.

I can get my bora pretty close to 9.0 Litres cruising around the back roads in the burbs but I have to be soooo careful

    Anyway thats good work !
yeah,my 1.6 golf normally has 9l/100km comsuption, means a full tank can last 600km when the yellow alarm lit.
