1.6 8v performance parts.. exhaust header ect.

Hey guys, I'm currently driving and modding a 2000 model mk4 1.6sr. Although I completely understand this is the least economical engine to gain extra performance from, I am happy with how it goes and don't want to buy a gti.

So I'm after an exhaust header/extractors.. Can't find these anywhere on the Web.. Is the 2ltr the same flange?

I'm thinking of a cam change to a 270 with new lifters, will I need to change valve springs for this cam? I assume so but thought I would double check.

The car will need a new clutch soon, I was looking at a 14lbs lightened flywheel and clutch kit, but once again its listed for a 2ltr.. Can anyone confirm that this would fit a 1.6?

Thanks for the help in advance, Darren.

    hey man

not sure with the parts you listed, but if you're after a descent catback exhaust, head to Castlehill Performance! Just got mine done for $350 the other day, looks and sounds superb! and it feels a tad quicker from 1st to 2nd on my 2.SLOW as well

    Thanks for the reply!
I'm not actually after a cat back system (already have found one) what I'm after are some 4 into 1 equal length extractors from the exhaust ports on the head down to the catalytic converter. I don't know if these exist for the 1.6 but are a common sight on older carbied cars such as gemini's Datsuns, mk1 golf ect.

I would suspect you will have a hard time finding them as nobody really"does up" the 1.6 compared to the GTI.
maybe try the american or euro golf groups for clues on who makes them ?

    Can I ask why?
I've been down the road of 'modifying' a slow car, its just ends up in regret.

In saying that, I learnt alot, taught myself alot and had fun on said slow car...but it's still slow.
Check out the European forums (Edition 38 ) perhaps.
    Sorry for rambling.

(should put up some pics of your Baja's)

The Baja pictured is still a work in progress, the yellow 76 was my daily before getting the golf. The engine is a 2109cc I built for the Baja. So that's abit of insight into my vw history.. But this is my first watercooled one!

Their are a few reasons for not getting a gti, the golf is overall a nice car and hasn't cost me much at all, it was handed to me from a family member, so my only cost so far will be rego in a week..
It's generally tidy and does the job of a daily well, some nice wheels, coilovers and marginally more power and it will be perfect!
I've got my sights set on doing a mk1 or 2 fast track/street car so keeping this mild and cheap is the plan!

    The Baja looks maaad!
And that 2109 must sound unreal on those (webbers?)

Understand, where your coming from on the Golf, can't complain for that price.

Also interested in such performance mods for my 1.6L
Im in the same boat as you and just don't have the money for a conversion, or to go buy a gti.
Im also looking at purchasing an exhaust but what diameter would be best suited? 2 1/4"?
The only performance wise mod ive done is pod filter which has made the stock exhaust much louder, but will probably stop after an exhaust. I cant really justify engine work as there will be minimal to no gains and would rather save my money so that can be put into something that is more worth while.

Eventually I will upgrade and will more than likely be to a newer/faster car when im off my P's.
But for the time being im keeping what ive got, and sticking to visual mods that make me happy

For a 1.6 I would go no bigger than a 2" exhaust any bigger and they fart and they don't need any bigger.
