    03 GTI MK4 Exhaust Question

    Hi all,

I want to upgrade my exhaust system on my GTI. I don't want to be one of those "I own an excel and I am putting a 5" dump to make it sound like a rice burner".... I want just that little more grunt.

Do you know what the size is from the engine back? Is it a straight 2 1/4"? Has anyone upgraded their exhaust?

    Thanks guys.

    Scooter.

ive got a full 3" turboback exhaust resonated. sound great but you wont notice too much of a gain on a stock tune. i think the stock is 2.25" will alot of flow restricting bends. whatever u do dont put a cannon on it!! get a nice high flow muffler and itll sound tough

a good 3" turbo back system will do just fine. There should be plenty of off the shelf items for it. Check out Miltek for a start!

I'm getting the 3 inch 42DD turbo back exhaust fitted ths week. The center muffler is basically a hotdog and the rear is a magneflow muffler.
It's a huge system and I'm hoping it doesn't drone. If it does I'll replace the hotdog with a proper muffler, probably a magneflow.
The standard system is just over 2 inch.
On the 42DD website they claim (putting power aside) a considerable increase in torque, which appeals to me.
    Stay tuned.....

Had a look at the factory downpipe while the car was up on the hoist. It is small, very small. That is one area that definately needs attention.

    Weedy standard downpipe.
