01 Golf GTI - Coolant Leak! Help

    Hi everyone,

Coolant leaks seem to love my car, but this time I dont know where its coming from.

When looking at the engine, on the right hand side of the engine, under the air intake pipe, there is a fair bit of water/coolant.

When i have the engine running, I cant see it dripping anywhere, it must only drip when I am driving.

I press on the top coolant pipe and nothing happens, no drips..

Can anyone identify what coolant pipe is on that side of the engine?, nearing the back of the block?

    Its truly driving me insane.

Sounds like the water outlet off the head. A common failure in my experience.

Drips onto the top of the gearbox. I have done this on my A4 wagon and S3 in the last year. A cheap part from HSY/imparts etc. Less than $30 and don't forget the fresh coolant.

Half an hour job to change.

similar but I reckon that is the one off the front of the head. The one you are looking at has only 2 bolt holes.

When you get the replacement. Make sure you know how many sensors go in it. The later revision takes 2 but you might only have 1 so need a blanking plug, O ring and the clip.
