How much do you envisage one costing, once complied here.

the problem lies in the costs involved in attaining RAWS status.
We are talking thousands of dollars per vehicle type. So that is why u need to guarentee a certain number. to recoup the fees.

Id think sourcing them from asia would be the go. They would be cheaper and in better condition than from the UK. I cant say ive investigated it properly. but landed and complied im sure they could be sold for 15k if in excellent condition with a healthy margin. there would also be a side business in parts too.

RAWS requires a car for crashing and a workshop to comply the cars, no reason it would need to cost that much.

Are Asian ones LHD, the conversion rips the arse out of the cost.

Dont dismiss the UK as a source of cars, the larger engined ones will be cheap as the insurance is so much.

hmm i wasnt aware of the crashing part. But RAWS requires money. I think thats the biggest limiting factor.

Hmm i didnt think of the LHD thing. curse those asians and their obsession with LHD cars! hehe

But yeah. people need to start showing the colour of their money and we could get a workshop to apply for permission to comply this car.

Biggest problem with UK cars is rust isnt it? but yeah. £3500 buys a nice car in the UK doesnt it? by the time u get it here and allow a couple grand to cover compliance costs youd be close to 15kAUD.

Just depends on how much RAWS thingo costs. Ill see if i can find the info on the DOTARS site.

Be careful that you don't waste too much time and money on this as others have tried and failed. People were refused before because it was too close to a Golf which was sold here.

If it looks like you can bring them in, pick an engine that is available here so that it does not have to be tested. This may save thousands.
The digifant engine is the same as Golf, VR6 is not complied.

You do not have to crash test them.

Will the RTA approve it straight away? Or does the report have to go to head office for a few weeks before approval? (This is how it was previously)

problem is there is no workshop that has applied for permission to comply them.

also there is no such thing as too much time and money in regards to something u consider desirable

    Yes there was.

They were refused permission because it was a Golf derivative. The guy was a pig and refused to listen to reason.

Maybe he is gone now and it is worth another try?

I agree - that's been my main gripe so far that other than forum's like this there doesn't appear to be anywhere else that you can get a definitive, clear and concise answer from someone 'in the know'? It took me ages to find all this info out and gawd know's how many people I emailed and pestered in the process!?!? Maybe we should all get together and lobby VW to start making the Corrado again??
