What's the likelihood of finding a Corrado VR6 in Oz (NSW)?

Hi, I had an agreement with my wife that when we emigrate to Sydney this April she can choose the main (family) car and I could go off and try and find a Corrado. Goodo I thought! However, when I looked into it I found that it wasn't going to be as simple as I'd hoped!!

Having looked into this a few months ago I was fairly crushed to see that I woudn't really be able to bring one over with me as I wouldn't have been able to own/drive it for a year, however, it does look a little bit more positive having seen some of the posts in this forum.

I used to own a Corrado 16V and absolutely loved it, I had a Mk II Golf GTi (8v) prior to that, but I'll be the first to admit that I made an error in part-exing the Corrado for a new Mk IV Golf GTi Turbo. Nice car but not a hot hatch - definitely in need of chipping at the very least but I kept it for 6 years and racked up over 100,000 miles on it.

I know, I know.....don't shout at me - you think it's easy living with that!?!? If I'd known then what I do now then I would've bought a Corrado VR6 years ago and then taken it with me to Oz, however, I'm still dreaming of the day when I drive a Corrado again.....<sigh> I think that I'm going to have to find me some dumb Pom (and let's face it, there must be loads in Oz!?!?) that has brought their Corrado over with them and mug 'em for it!!!!!

Throughout Australia there are about 3 or 4 Corrados

Well, I guess it's not much but it's better than nothing!?!? And I need names and addresses so's I can persuade 'em that they need to sell their Corrado's to me!!

Most of them are only recent purchases.

If you buy a Corrado in Britain and have a good reciept which says the vehicle is for export to Australia, you can bring it. Pre 88 is better, but if you are emigrating, you get to bring one car. Find a good one in Blighty, apply for an import permit before it gets to Oz, although you can do it when its on the boat. Drive on in Southampton and off in Sydney. $2500 freight. Do it, I left my Scirocco Storm in the Uk when I moved here and have always regretted it. You wont get one here.

You greedy git!! Come on - let me have one, you know you want to!?!? I'll only have to hunt ya down and 'persuade' you to sell me one if you don't?!?!

As for 'Chav'ley, it's a town in NE Kent where I'm currently living that's full of pikey's (I ****in' hate pikeys!?!?) It's actually called Swanley and to be honest we just want to get to Oz as soon as!! (yup, we're dumb poms at the mo but hoping that we get smart when we're in Oz??)

I did look into perhaps importing one from the UK but got the impression that unless I'd owned/driven it for a year first then I wouldn't be able to - so I knocked that idea on the head and now we've too much else to be dealing with (and not the cash until the house is sold!?!?) for me to be able to go chasing a VR6 - yes, I know I'll regret it, I already am, but I'm determined and will track one down when I get to Oz - will keep you posted on my progres.....

Anyway, thanks for your replies and making a dumb pom welcome - we're not all that bad and most poms I speak to in this poxy country would love to go to Oz, they're just too dumb to actually do it!!
