X5 wheels, too wide for T5?

Just bought some X5 Beemer wheels for my T5 van.
They're silly wide at 10 and 11". I never carry a heavy load, am I just going to have next to no rear traction in the arse in the wet?
Fronts are 10" wide running 245x45 rubber(19" rims), rear are 11" wide with 275x40s. Edit:- just learnt you measure rims on inside width, so the rear would be 10" wide, the front only 9". Still, too wide?
I need new rubber on the rears. What's the narrowest I can run on 11" wide rims? Should I run the wider rims on the front?
If I had 17" rims on 235x55s should I stick with the lower 40 height?
Please ignore stupid questions,I'm going to go school myself now on google.
Anyone have the same rims and want to swap their 10" ones for my 11"s?

    Yup, just worked that out.
What height tyres should I run to keep same gearing as the stock ones? I don't mind gearing it up a touch, first gear is painfully low, although 6th gear is only good for over 105kph it seems.

True, speedo seems a touch over what I'm doing, well what everyone around me does(through speed cameras etc). But not by much.
    But they're stock 235x55s anyway.

damn thats a big tyre (im use to 205/40/17s and 225/45/17s haha)

the below tyre sizes are pretty close to the 235/55/17 according to some basic online calculator

    225/45R19
    235/45R19
    255/40R19
    265/40R19

ideally a 225/45 is matched to the 255/40, and the 235/45 matches the 265/40

keep a eye on load ratings, can be a issue with the bigger cars if you want to keep it 100% legit (wheels might be too wide for that as is)

Yeah I looked at a calculator thing. Won't change gearing or speedo much at all going to 45s on the 19s.
My question for you Dylan handy tyre dude, is how narrow a tyre can I put on the wider 10" rim without it being full emo cool street racer wanna be weirdo lookin and unsafe?
Wheels are off BMWs SUV so the wheels should just cut it legal wise. Although the Transporter calls for some stupid high load rating. I never load mine up, just pushbikes mainly, not that that matters legally Tyres, yes I'll be sure to get load rated ones. Any issue running 40s at one end and 45s at the other until the 45s wear out?

If the tyres are too different front and back it can muck with your awd/4mo system (if you have one) and braking.
There is tolerance for both of these though.

    On a 10 a 265/40 Will be pretty square.

A 10" wheel is actually 11" over all as you know, convert 11" to mm (279mm) this will give you some idea. Keep in mind you can get 'narrow' and 'wide' tyres in each size pending brand and model.

I've happily fit a 235/35 on my 10" wide wheels before and drive to Sydney and back no worries, but that's probably not what you want haha

Also ran these daily for over a year with 235/35 on the 10's and 225/35 on the 9's. That was on a Mk4 tho so I'm guessing transporter may need some fatter and maybe slightly wider tyres lol. If it was mine i'd probably try 235 or 245/40 on the 10.

Sorry for the lack of T5 knowledge, but do they have 5x120 stud pattern or are you gonna be running adapters?
