    Wiper / fan problem

    Hi Guys
New to this forum, and new to VW's
I have a 2006 lwb transporter. I have noticed that the intermitant wipers and the low speed heater fan have gone on leave (AWOL?) both work ok on full speed.
I'm kinda hoping it's a fuse, but which one ?
    Looking forward to your answers
    Col

If they work on full speed it doesn,t sound like a fuse problem , but in saying that with can bus in these vans there could be any number of causes as with can bus systems an electrical component may fail and because it shares with other components it can take out several other functions that are not related to the original part . As most on this forum know I am not a fan of can bus wiring it doesn,t make my van go faster or perform better or make my life easier all it can do is cause several problems all at once and more important you just cannot add something different to your vehicle .The onboard electronics will just not recognize them and if you are adding a VW part thats not standard you have to get a computer to interface with the vans computer and have it tell the other to play fair with the new component . I just miss the good old days simple things that were simple to fix take a look at a top speced Van 120 fuses I have been told how ridiculous is that . [end rant] Oops nearly forgot if you know someone with the right pc they might be able to tell you whats gone cablooy .

    Hey Sunny
    It sounds like a $100 gizmo to protect a 20c fuse !
    Thanks

    Ha.... made some progress.
Aparently, the intermittent wipers dont work if the bonnet is not closed ! Now why didn't I think of that .
So now only the low speed heater needs an answer. I notice the heater has 2 fuses, so thats next

Not sure if this applies to T5s, but on early cars to make the fan run on lower speed a resistor is used in the circuit on this setting. After some time the resistor burns out. The resistor replacement is normally an easy fix.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

theres a switch on your bonnet latch. And the wipers shouldnt work at all with the bonnet open.

The fan issue sounds like the resister maybe shot

Okay I,ll stand corrected up to a point both our T5,s wipers still work high and low speed with bonnet,s open but not on intermittent . That make sense as a mechanic could have his hand in there when the intermittent suddenly would operate nasty surprise .

Hey, time for an update... The wipers work fine, and they need to at the moment.
The heater worked fine for a little while, but now the whole lot has stopped, and I'm dammed if I can find a dud fuse, although I have only checked the 60 odd that I can find, so it still could be a fuse.
On a different, but related subject, these Transporters dont get any "un-fanned" air into them, to get air in, fan or force 4 gale thro the window. Mine had little wind deflectors which dod nothing for the buffeting. I have just fitted some bigger ones from "Stone Sheilds P/L" in QLD. Much better @ about $100 each
can anyone tell me where the heater fan fuse(s) are located

If you check out the fuse card usually in the fuse box you will notice the symbols for each one , then go down to your local community centre and find an Egyptian who can decipher Hieroglyphics .Thanks VW
