That has been the case for many years & is not what we are talking about.

This is about access to maintenance data, diagnostic data or diagnostic tools and software upgrades.

It's been that way for a while now.

In fact, I might add to my marketing campaign, just to keep people informed of their rights.

Nothing is that bad that it couldn't be worst. As for access to the diagnostic data and tools, it's still relatively good and yes, it appears that some workshops just give the manufacturers opportunity to lock us out. They even use the law and it seems to me they will get away with that even get applauded for that. Simply they use the environment and the quality of the air as excuse. Though it's not that hard to figure out that the environment is not their priority, never really was.

I didn't read all there, but I know that Bosch is heavily involved and it should be slowly coming from 2015.

There was another article in todays paper it seems that there is a sizeable backlash about this and there are some who are now saying they may have to back away from the proposal so maybe good news . There are two peak motoring groups who are not agreeing with each other so a change may be coming [maintain the rage !]

From my memory, the dispute between the motoring groups and the car manufacturers in AU is around 2 years old or even older. The car manufacturers were told to comply or they would be forced to comply and they were given the time until November. So, they came with some voluntary crap which is useless.

Don't have much hope that anything will change for better Howard, not in AU. The OBD3 is upon us and that will make this issue irrelevant.

It mightn't be long before a high % of cars are battery powered not that the main/cheap ingredient in sunscreen has been found to be able to reduce the recharge time whilst increasing the battery lifespan significantly and much cheaper to manufacture.
I doubt that there would be much money in servicing them either.

...by then the electricity cost will rise, so you won't save anything by not paying for the petrol.

Just like solar panels on the hoses caused that we pay more for electricity now then before.

Solar panels on the roof are not the cause of your electricity price increases.

Look to the price of coal & the price of gas. Look at the price of compliance, asset redundancy, system redundancy, carbon tax (now gone), upgrade of aging assets, forward planning of capital expenditure, wage costs, etc.

Consumer demand has decreased because unit prices of power have increased. Saying that solar power has caused prices to rise is like saying that the easier availability of LED & fluorescent bulbs has caused electricity prices to rise.
