What bolt head T4 2.5 petrol head bolts

I must have misread a bunch of advice and sourced an RT10 Ribe 1/2" bit for the head bolts on my T4, however on closer inspection they appear to be a spline.

    Are these triple squares M12s?

Asking before I spend more of my hard earned on tools I will never use again.

    Darren.

I think I've answered my own question - looks to be a triple square when I zoom in on the photo. Are these what most shops sell as spline bits? Now I just need to sus out what size it is...

I just did this job to my 98 Caravelle. Definitely 12 triple square. Beware of the FAI head bolts, the ones I got had defective heads, the bit wouldn't fit in. They can't have made just one box of them.

Another name for them is XZN or multispline As for the size, I would buy a 12mm as suggested on the
understanding that it can be exchanged for another size if it doesn't fit.
I have different sizes of these & have needed them more than once.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

i bought a box set combo of allen key, torx, spline bits 6-12mm from Repco, few years back. Not expensive either
Haven't used them on head bolts though.Yet.

    Like this but generic
