What is this?

I was driving home today and hear a random clunk sound 3 or for times coming from the front of my T5, once or twice it was under breaks, and the other times was going over speed bump. I panicked and drove the rest of the way home slow.
When I got home I took my under engine cover off and had a look this this bolt cover sitting on my engine cover, but could not find anything loose.
My question is were and what is this cover off, and what could be causing my noise?

That looks like the wiper arm nut cover.

There are a few suspects for the clunk, the driveshafts are the most common.

Check that your wiper arms are tight.

OK driving today and no sounds. Fingers crossed. Had a look at the wipers and yes that's were the plug is from. There is no way I would have found it unless I noticed it when washing.
