No shortage of anti flush enthusiasts online, a polarising practice it seems.

The oil consumption of 2L in 10,000km isn’t too bad. I’d start with 0.75L of LM Viscostabil added to oil at every oil change. I change oil in all our cars every 6months and no one had to add any oil between the oil changes, though they’d do less than 8,000km in that time.
I don’t buy every filter from the dealer, but almost alway use recognised brand like Pureflux, Mann, Mahle, Knecht, Hengst from a reputable supplier. Also, I don’t consider VW genuine filter Filtron (Wix filters) brand as a good filter for my own cars, which you can get many times when buying from the dealer. IMO, they are inferior quality just looking at them and comparing to other filters and suddenly even Ryco air filter looks better with better paper and more pleats compared to Wix sorry to VW genuine Filtron.
My favourite engine oil filter for 2.5TDI is Pureflux from the dealer, the same filter is in 2.0TDI CBAB in Golfs, Tiguan Octavias up to 2010.

In Jan 2016 I started walking 2km each way to/from train station (new job in CBD with no parking) in addition to what was a reasonably active lifestyle. I weighed 92kg. By Sep 2017 I weighed 74kg. I did modify my eating habits slightly but didn't "diet". I'm around 89kg now but that's because my walk to the station is only 200m and I stuffed my knee on a slippery floor. Getting back into it soon. It's hard work but not carrying those extra kilos are a lot easier on the joints. I'm mid-50s and the metabolism certainly slows down post-50yrs

Mahle and Mann are both OEM suppliers to VW and are excellent filters that are available outside the VW spares network.

Thank you T, never knew about HSY, definitely getting a couple Mahle filters next week in Perth.
T do you judge engine flush as risky, even if done correctly, iow 5-10 minute idle and oil and filter change immediately after ?

Engine oil flush is safe as long as you use right product. The Penrite engine flush is very safe, even recommended as a cure for noisy lifters.
