Watch those 16inch Miyato alloys when getting a tyre leak fixed or tyre changed!
Hi all,
I want to share my frustration and general angst. I had a tyre leak fixed (2008 128KW TDI 16 inch Miyato alloy) and it resulted in the alloy being damaged with some wonderful score marks! After the tyre dealer's initial verment denial, and a resulting frank discussion and they had the wheel repainted at their expense. Well that was a few months ago.
Last week I had another leaking tyre and went to another tyre dealer. I relayed my previous experience and sought assurances that these guys would not do the same. They showed me the machine and pointed out that damage would result if they used the "other 'red' machine in the corner" but their other 'blue' machine will not damage the alloys. I stood there and watched with great anxiety until they put the wheel back on the vehicle. I checked the wheel and all seemed to be fine. It was only when I got home and cleaned the wheel properly that I noticed some minor marks from their machine. I will live those and touch up, but am wondering if any body else has had the same experience with these wheels and tyre dealers damaging them?
The marks are on the high edge area of the alloy and also on the lower spoke lip towards the tyre.
See internet example of these wheels...

With new tyres due in a few months, I don't want it happening to all 4 wheels...

I had 4 tyres fitted on the same Miyato 16" rims at Jax Moorabbin a long time ago and no problems, they did take a very long time installing them however....chains for the snow , now that's another issue after being promised "no they won't mark the wheels".... I will be far more careful when I eventually update the T5 with rims that are far less convex in profile. Some of the old bluestone kerbs such as in parts of Richmond have given me grief many times.

Thanks Tornado. I might have to stick some sort of adhesive double sided tape around the high section of the convex profile of the alloys or make up some sort of 'protective blanket' that adheres and fits inside the wheel circumference whilst they change the tyres.....just to be sure!
Has anybody heard of tyre dealers having some sort of protective 'blanket?'
Regards,
Scott
