Hi Paradox, message sent to you
Theres a company in Melbourne called Capital special vehicles that have stacks of 2 and 3 seater transporter/multivan/caravelle seats
There are two on Ebay both at the same location not sure if they have two seats or are advertising one twice , vw transporter t5 rear seat | eBay
Only a comment is your van a Transporter or another as from my experience there will not be attachment points in the floor for a genuine seat the floor configuration is vastly different when the factory seats are fitted . If I am not mistaken the factory mounts are recessed into the floor this would require some major surgery to do the conversion to a non matching model . I used to fit extra seats and seat belts with my old business and any conversion has to be engineered with a certification as well . The aftermarket ones are built to ADR specifications and are supplied with appropriate under floor reinforcing plates for the seat and any seat belts attached . The factory seats have belts integrated into the seat frames and a such the strength of the mounts in the floorand the frames of the seat are incredibly higher than an aftermarket , in an aftermarket one some of the belts will be attached to the side walls as well reducing the load on the floor mounts as a matter of interest the load for each person is approx 68kg multiplied by 20 this is the load exerted in a 60 kmh crash so 3 persons would be around 4000kg's PLUS the weight of the seat itself . So you can see the sort of engineering required to keep occupants safe and legal . I spent tens of thousands back in the late nineties building and quick release prototype seats for Maxi taxis we destroyed quite a few along the way it was worse than standing in a cold shower tearing up $100 bills .
You will still need to get certification do not believe any one who tells you that because you use factory mounts etc it will be fine . Your van was only certified for two person seating and if you add the extra seat it changes the vehicle classification . Some engineers who do the certification will be very pedantic in how a job is done , so it pays to use someone who does seat modification's and fitting they will make sure it is to the standards . Our T5 had only one additional seat belt mounting point in the rear only on one side as well the opposite sides were just blanks , also there were no under floor fittings in ours the factory ones would be welded in at the factory . Next the van once changed should also have child restraint fittings fitted as well , the factory seat may have them in already so that will be easy . Now in some cases the engineers will require extra windows to be fitted in a windowless van , it has been over ten years since I sold out of this business so some rules would have changed it will pay to check around . Good luck .
