Amarok produces same power without the oil issue, difference is the egr cooler, these engines can do high kilometres with the egr blanked off, all you need to bypass egr cooler on the amarok is a bit of pipe, I’m importing a egr simulator to save my dpf from blocking up, I’ve had my egr blanked for over 10000km now.

My CAAC motor doesn't use any oil between services. (single turbo)

Just came across this as well that I hadn't seen before...........

Seems in the UK it took a BBC program to expose the problems as VW weren't going to admit problem . Same thing happened here with the ABC when there was reported problems .

But what year have you got?
On later models, blanking is going to cause trouble.
I think that even on mine (late build 2012) it will cause problems.

I have a 2010 T5.2 single turbo and I've just been talking to a blanker and according to him (of course) blanking the EGR will not cause any problems. It will only increase power and engine life. All for the same price as replacing the EGR. Doing it just with the tune means they close the valve to the EGR (no blanking plates). This is also harder to detect. I could also blank the DPF with the same tune but would need to spend an extra $750 plus fitting for a DPF delete pipe. Apparently not all blankers are created equal...so DYOR

Logic mine 12 update model, I’d say the long distance country driving probably benefits my dpf, had the egr blanked to check if it affects my oil consumption, done over 10000km since with no dpf issues, took the blanking plates out last week to do a vw oil consumption test, long term I’m planning egr blanking with egr simulator or dpf removal, egr simulator about $250 eBay,

    2011 Multivan Engine Failure

    Hello,

Firstly I'd like to thank to all involved in providing this wealth of VW knowledge and an amazing platform to share it on.........

So I am asking if anyone would know of a good second hand or reconditioned engine in Sydney or the central coast for a 2011 Multivan
CFCA 2.0l twin turbo engine (TDI400)

After 160000kms and complaining non stop to my VW approved service technician (European Autotech) about the car blowing white smoke intermittently, I was told that it needed a new turbo.

After paying close to $7k and having a new turbo fitted the smoke problem only got worse. Six weeks later the whole engine gave up the ghost.

Apparently the bearings from the balance shaft in the sump disintegrated thereby allowing wear in the shaft. This allowed the oil pump to spin freely not turning the pump therefore the engine not getting any oil...........

So after having it towed to VW Gosford, I was supplied with that diagnosis and given a quote of $11.5k for a new short engine, that is providing that the new turbo wasn't damaged as well.

I made a few enquires with VW Australia about what could be done about this but as you would expect I have not received any support or even a reply.

So after 5 weeks, 3 email, and 5 phone calls to VW I have given up and am looking for a solution to get my baby back on the road again.

Its really disappointing to spend good money on what I thought was a quality vehicle, look after and service it in accordance with VW's schedule at VW or VW approved service centres and then to have this happen.

I was a big fan of the VW brand until this experience and to have zero support or even the courtesy of a reply to my enquiries is extremely disappointing and saddening.

I loved this van and sincerely hope to get her back on the road soon.

It looks to me that you need to find a good diesel mechanic or diesel specialist workshop in your area.

I have a 2011 T5.2 TDI400 that was using oil and low and behold, it now needs a new engine..........

VW won't reply to any of my emails or calls and want $11.5k to put a new short engine in her......

How do I get VW to come to the party?

With more than 160,000km, I don’t think they will.
Are you the original owner and if not what was the odometer reading when you bought it secondhand?

Mine is similar... Replaced both turbos and it still blows smoke (worse after the big turbo was replaced)
