    No joy for me (2010 T5.1 132kw 4motion LWB)

Quote for a new engine $15-18 K from dealer (Includes DPF, EGR, sundries)

I need to find a mechanic in Melbourne who can:
    1. Replace base engine
    2. Re-fit DMF & EGR but delete / blank the bloody things away!
    3. Maybe a tune up / remap

    Any suggestions:
    ? Volkwerks ? Worx automotive

The other alternative in the interim maybe just blanking the EGR for now, and managing the oil loss. I can live with the odd fault code & limp mode.

    Sucks big time.......

We may be up for a chat. I find out on Monday if mine has suffered the same kind of fate as yours but from what I don't know yet.

I've been told VolksRepair in Airport West are good.

While it's probably on the wrong side of town for you, Volkscare in Bayswater have only got good reviews on this site.
Kudos to Volkscare VIC- GTI 105k service

I've been there a couple of times and I can't fault him except it's a month wait to book in for a service.

And can you wait till after Wed before contacting him, I'm getting the replacement axle of my replacement axle done (not him) done then, and wouldn't want to get bumped down the queue

Don,t quote me on this but I was talking to a workshop here last week about EGR delete for the T5.1 . From what he explained it may not be a good idea , apparently if you blank the EGR or remove it, the removal changes the operating temperature range of the engine due to the EGR cooler being part and parcel . So long term it can lead to piston failure due to higher operating temperatures , VW may not have made the piston's out of strong enough metals to last at higher than normal temp . I got this titbit from another English VW site Quote "The egr CAN'T be deleted if you don't have the dpf removed at the same time as the egr is use as part of the dpf regeneration process.
And at the moment removing the dpf is illegal! "

What happened to the good old days when you could ring up your local REPCO store and order an exchange engine for your car , you had a choice of short [bottom half only ] or long full motor with full reco head etc .

Those days are gone, i got a reconditioned head for my cortina from Repco

Life and looking after a carbie engine was damm easy.

these days too much damm red tape in life and overly complicated electronics in cars

But if you take away all the electrics and plumbing surely the basic stripped down internal combustion engine is not that far removed from the old days . I bet the car makers would not sell the components to rebuild engines like the old days as they are probably doing their best to sell ridiculous priced spare part engines complete . I certainly can remember rebuilding the engine myself for my first car a Morris Minor the only part I could not do was the crankshaft used to send it out for regrinding and then new oversize bearings . Then with my first brand new van a Bedford CFS which had the Holden 202 engine from memory when it blew I bought the long engine from Repco .

Cook it was right apparently a design flaw starved no 5 piston from enough water .
