At least the US market seems to listen to there market, your right, who wants a 2 litre in a pick up, the damm thing would need an engine rebuild after 20000km with what they seem to carry over there.
I do think we are more allied with the USA, over Europe.
We share Long distance driving and carrying way to much weight, on the tray, in the vehicle and towing, look how many caravans we have here that are over 3 tons.
Most of the caravan manufacturer work with the "Build to Australia Conditions" which means, they are too cheap to calculate and test lightweight engineering, so they over engineer and the caravan is and extra 300-500kg heavier.
Hmm 150 kw is nothing to sneeze about although not as much torque as a diesel .

Took my Van for its first Run-In drive yesterday, up through Mount Glorious over to Esk to Kilcoy and back to Brisbane via Mount Mee.
This van has the power, if the DSG can decide what gear it should be inits not like a normal auto, and i'm use to paddle shifts.
As for the engine run in, i varied the revs, and speed was varied as well, and the load on the engine was variable with some hills and valley runs.
The brakes should be run in now, i've got 10.5 sqm of sound deadening sitting in the lounge room to apply and 12.5 sqm of 10mm closed cell foam on the way to install and help with the noise.

Yes have done that same route a few times and yes the DSG just totally gets confused a real pisser in my opinion , too many gears to self select . What they need to do is fit a camera so the gearboxes brain can see where we are going , same thing for roundabouts and intersections it cant be always relied on to get the correct gear . Sounds like a good job in front of you Bryn have you seen the ones I have done over the last few years ?
[QUOTE=Sunny43.5;1220160]Same problem solved differently by Merc (I think) and maybe one or two others, the autobox uses gps input to pre-empt gear selection from the terrain and road layout data. I guess the only drawback would be old mapping data but Merc, BWM and Audi did buy "Here" mapping from Nokia a while back.Originally Posted by Bryn23
