    Smile Vw T4 help....

First of all after a few google searches it is nice to find a VW forum. So hi to all. A few month ago i bought a t4 2.5 petrol 96 model transporter. I love it,

No to my problem as im not to familiar with vw at all it is a struggle. So hope one of you guys/girls can help.

I have a slight shutter everytime i turn right. At first i thought cv joint or ball joint but they are fine.

This only happens on right hand corners and ive now nutted it down more. If i put it in neutral and turn and nothing its all good. So now im not to sure . If i rev it and slighty turn right whil in drive it shutters a little. The more rpm the motor does the worse it seems.

Ive check all suspension but when it come to engine and box im lost on these things.........

Can anyone help at all. Hopefully its a common fault. Apart from this annoying shutter on right hand lock im loving it.

look forward to your replies and continueing in this forum

    cheers Howie

Well done on the purchase...sorry to hear aboput the problem.

To me (bear in mind I'm no mechanic) it sounds like your drive shaft.

This means the problem could be at either end of the shaft (there are two CV joints on each shaft - not just one) or it could be in the wheel bearings. But I would go for the driveshaft. It should be a straightforward changeove provided you have a T25 (?) Torx driver......you may also be able to find a reco shaft rather than grab a new (read pricey) one.

Check the integrity of both the inner and outer boots while you are at it. And replace them and the clamps if you change out the driveshaft.

By the by, there's a US VW Van forum at vwvortex.com and a UK T4 forum (quite good) at http://vwt4.forumsplace.com/

    Mounts

Also check your engine mounts. If it's worse on one steering lock then they could be suspect.

thanks heaps guys. I have checked mounts they are all i tacked. I would say drive shaft also as on my way to work i was just at idle in 1st clutch total out and as you back off you can here the shutter a little.

Does anyone know why it doesnt do it turning left?is it because your drive is off your right front????

Also it is not to bad on right hand corner if i hit the gas ......just seem to be under de-cell..

once again thanks for your help

I reckon it`ll be a driveshaft. They take a beating.
Put the front of the van up on stands and spin each wheel and move the steering.

yeah i have done that too. Could only find slight wear in ball joints. Ive resigned to sending in to my local VW dealer. Booked in on thursday. I will let you all no. Id say driveshaft too. Thanks again.

i must say this forum is the best ive been apart of. Im a member of a couple of other which seems to have alot of people that just join to make comment unwanted by most.

    cheers Howie

you are right there about some other forums Howie. The things that get on them is disgusting. Mate, we all have a passion for our cars here and we are all here to help out and maybe pick up a few pointers on the way. No ego's here, just mates. Cheers, Andrew

Just check that the engine mounts have not sagged a little allowing an exhaust heat shield to cut into the steering rack. (common on T4s)

well ive taken it to VW dealer and they couldnt tell me anything what it was. So i took it back to my mate and told him i didnt want it back till he found the noise.

And the winner is ENGINE MOUNT,,,,,(the back one)

So just awaiting the part which is $249... for one mount.

    Once again thanks to all
