Go with the Performance tune, you will not regret that, there is a nice fuel saving as well if you drive normaly. I'm sure that Simon will look after you.

Well, I've been sent home for a month after being away and am spending too much time on the computer. I noted ads for Viezu tuning in the new T5 Bus magazine, and saw their banner on this site. Looked them up and surprise, head office is just up the road in Cairns. I spoke to a very nice fella who is looking forward to seeing my van mid next week to discuss their 'Blue Tune' (economy savings and power-torque increases). The stock 2.5 is rated at 128KW which is approx 175HP. It'll be interesting to see any difference on offer.
Cost is approx $1000 but as I do so much open highway driving, I recon that's acceptable.
I'll get back to you when I get the van delivered and can get up to Cairns. This sounds really promising.
Best wishes all.
Ken

Thanks for the tip, and i'll discuss this with Simon.
One thing though is I'm not a hoon in the van and normally change gears by 3000RPM. I can't see how more power will make things too much easier for me (apart from torque) unless I learn to take the RPM closer to red line. Open road and overtaking of course is a different matter. The biggest issue for me is ensuring that I don't stress the running gear of the van. Reliability is everything to me. It's not a stop start urban delivery vehicle, so is generally fairly under stressed as is.
Thanks again and best wishes.

Yes, the overtaking is much improved with the performance map. See more in my thread; http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post842013

Yeah like Miro said, "Performance" is the mid level and sticks to stock boost levels generally, whereas Motorsport pushes as far as is safe to do so, usually a few to several psi over stock. Economy is great for fuel savings, but the performance effect everyone wants is pretty mild. Big km drivers who want 1300kms a tank get Economy, Van drivers carrying far too much junk need Performance. Hoons, well, Motorsport.

Well, I have had my Viezu tune for almost a year now.
I got to try all 4 tunes. I did not see any substantial savings in economy modes. 1300kms per tank is complete bollocks! Seriously, are you suggesting a T5 will get that with a Viezu tune? If so they must have really changed the tunes since I got mine, otherwise that's just a flat lie.
The performance tune is ok, no difference in economy really but definitely a bit more power.
Simon was helpful and had lots of information.

I don't try hard to get a good fuel economy (still enjoying the extra power), but after filling up and before the needle of the fuel gauge shows on 1/2 the tank, I've done 500km, where before it was rare I could get 420km (I saw 450km once or twice) from full to 1/2.
So, definitely there is some good saving on the fuel as well.![]()

Thanks fellas. I'll get the performance tune. I'll also monitor closly re fuel with my new IPad Ap 'Fuely" as there's no trip computer on the van. I'll post any details on the list for anyone interested.
Best wishes fellas.

If you use the extra torque provided by the Performance tune to shift early, then you will get the same benefits as the Economy tune (both seem to have the same bottom end boost but the Performance tune keeps making power for a lot longer).
With either one, if you don't shift earlier than with the stock tune (or even hang on to the gears longer), you will not see a mileage gain and may well use more fuel, especially with the Performance tune which does not taper off sharply (so you are tempted to have fun using the top end).
