Hi guys
I had an incident on the weekend where the Rev Counter on my '96 T4 Campervan went beserk, going from zero up past 30 repeatedly & at the same time, the oil light was flashing continuously - and not having a 'smart phone' to 'google' it or check on here to help diagnose the problem ..... I've never had the light go on in the 15 years that I've owned the vehicle, so thought it may damage the engine if I continued, so I pulled over & called for Roadside Assistance.
He pulled out an electronic Diagnostic Tool - but it did not suit my 'older' model vehicle & I had no choice but to be towed to the closest city with a VW Dealer & then wait overnight until it opened on Monday Morning! I slept in the camper!
Luckily, it was only a loose wire on the oil pressure switch & 3hrs & $150 later, I was on the road again ......
Having the older model T4 Transporter and planning on doing some big miles in the next few months, I thought it may be helpful if I actually bought a Vag Com (or similar) to leave in the van so that if needed, I can just pull it out for THEM to use, to help diagnose any problems with the van!
I know there are the original units and cheaper versions around - would you be able to help me with recommending which one to go for? I don't really want to spend mega-bucks - and don't own a PC (I've always been Mac Mad!) so don't evisage using it myself ..... it will just be there to help others get me out of a tight situation - if it happens!
cheers & thanks in advance
Arpie
