    Turbo for a 2.5L T4 Petrol

New to the T4, just wondering how available a turbo for the 2.5 petrol motor is (if at all). All I seem to be able to find are turbos for diesels. The manifolds would be different and I would assume there would be an ECU modification that would need to be done as well.

    Any thoughts/answers

No factory options. They were only n/a petrol engines in the T4. Ofcourse anything is possible in terms of custom work... but why?

Even the later model T5's only had diesel turbo's. The T6 has a FI petrol model coming out.

    My thoughts are "too hard"

Why not? Like with any car, there always has to be a first I just wanted to see if there were already options out there before looking into too much custom work.

I am looking at putting the GTI engine into mine, admittedly I lose a few cubic inches but almost double the power. Interestingly, there does not seem to be a culture of modifying the engine in the T4 world. I would think that an engine that that has its heritage in the audi quattro would be prime for modification but alas it seems to not be the case. My mechanic just looked at me confused when I was discussing keeping a petrol engine in my T4 and then doing work on it. His suggestion was to just go the for the diesel and then think about keeping it stock or maybe a minor remap. I was just starting to google modification of the T4 petrol engine, surely its not that difficult to import speed bits into the country anymore.

There's a pommie guy running a 20VT setup in his T4. As gldgti above already mentioned, it all comes down to your skills and/or wallet size! Otherwise a engine swap to a TDI would also be pretty sweet, as those engines can be easily modded with a tune and injectors to around 150Hp...

Would that make it a GTD?????? First let me say there is nothing wrong with the 2.5 petrol 5 cylinder, after all anything that mirrors the quattro engine can't be all bad, I was just thinking maybe a TDI 2.5 and having it chipped and modded to get it flying along. I guess the only question is would fuel economy be a thing of the past or would it still be reasonable?

the other question would be who would be capable of doing the swap and the modding in Canberra?

As a simple non mechanicly trained mechanic I did a swap for my sons van 2.4 diesel turned it into a 2.5 petrol , let me just say it is an easy job but you must have everything from the diesel van to swap over into your old petrol one . first I changed fuel tank and sender plus fuel lines , second exhaust from front to rear , engine ecu as they are all very different , full wiring harness from engine bay to back of fuse box up to instrument binnacle and ignition immobilizer . The speedo and tacho are all different because of engine RPM plus all the associated electrics with diesel injectors etc , after all that it was quite straight forward as I had the two vans side by side during the swap , once done I refitted the old 2.4 diesel into the donor van and sold it on . The son is very happy with the 2.5 as it has much more performance than the old 2.4 diesel PLUS the 2.4 was non turbo so it was quite sedate .

I love my T4 but the performance stock is less than stellar, I don't plan on getting rid of mine, just change the engine over and get a bit more (well a lot more) performance. I am going through all the options and have come up with the following:

2.5 TDI with appropriate chip and performance upgrade
1.8 GTI engine which may require a rebuild dependant on kms and condition
2.5 Petrol with a complete pimp, i.e. turbo, rebuild and a new ECU with remap.

The limits I have are related to cost and to availability I have no interest in actually doing the work myself, I figure you do what your good at and leave the rest to the experts.

In that case if you are going to get someone to do it for you you will pay pay pay pay as I described either way except for upgrading your current engine there is a lot more to change with a different engine than stock that you have now .
