How does this affect warranty I recently heard from another forum member that the dealer found out he had done some upgrades and they apparently refuse to give warranty on the components affected .

The thing that now attracts me to the 350TSI is the (advertised) maximum torque range of 1500-4000 rpm.
I am assuming that this range of maximum torque will help more in towing a caravan better than the 400TDi that only has maximum torque between 1500-2000rpm?
I agree that upping the kW and Nm will put more stress on engine and drive train. The question is, "Does this increase excede the design of the componants?" I assume that remapping the computer is generally safer than a piggy-back chip because it does not alter information sent from various sensors to the computer (running and protecting things). Which is why in my original post, I had asked if anyone had any experience with this particular chip.
I would expect that any non-factory mod to the car would enable the factory to not honour warranty claims, which is also why I am/was looking for a tuning company that has supreme confidence in their product and offer a warranty with it (which I hope to never use, just like insurance).
Happy to be corrected on any of my assumptions

There are many 2.0TSI VWs on this very forum which have been chipped from early in their lives with very little (if any) ill effect. Oettinger offers a full drivetrain warranty which makes it really attractive if you are worried about it.
For what its worth, I've driven all the Multivans and the TSI350 is by far the best performer. The wide torque curve and the responsive engine actually makes it an enjoyable drive. As far as fuel consumption goes, I suspect it wont be much worse than the TDIs. Asking a 2.0 turbo (petrol or diesel) to drive a 2.4tonne van at any decent speed around town means its heavy on fuel. 2.0TDI can struggle to do 500km on 80l in city driving and considering the relative ease with which the TSI does its job compared to the TDIs I'd be very surprised if it did any worse in the city.
Open road, I'd expect the TSI to be heavier on fuel.

Hey Sharkie,
On paper, the 2.5TDI and the 350TSI have similar fuel consumptions around town (and I suspect similar under load as well). I totally agree that there are heaps of TSI/TFSI engines that have been re-mapped and are still going very strong.
I can personally vouch for Oettinger, as my 2TDI Octavia was re-mapped with only 52km on the clock. It now has over 90,000km on the clock, and no problems what so ever (even with the odd track day thrown in). Still, I find it strange that they do not do a re-map for the 340TDI, but do one for every other engine...
Hey Sunny, I'll have a look at Brickyard to see what they are doing. Thanks for the tip![]()

We (Oettinger) will have the new maps available shortly - it's a matter of a new programming tool thats very expensive & in limited supply that's holding us back at the moment.
We have obviously done a heap of the TDI 400's in T5's & AMAROK's, but the new tool is needed for the 420's (and the 350's I think) If anyone has a 350 & can drop into our workshop, we can confirm!
I am hanging out for a test drive in the TSI T5 too.
You will be waiting for a while then Guy ..... no dealer in QLD has (or intends to have) 1 in stock ..... I had to go to Canberra to testdrive the TSI350.
It is soooo much better than the TDI's I'm amazed they are not selling heaps. Probably the misconception that the TDIs are better on fuel consumption.
