VCDS will cover the T4, no troubles at all.
With the injector pump, it's just a typical Bosch pump. It should have a Bosch part number on it that you can Google, and find more information. I have seen exploded diagrams of them in the past.
We're going to try and service a leaking injector pump on our 2000 T4 TDI. I've been searching the web for workshop manuals (real ones!) and not seeing any good reviews. It seems the best advice is here in the forum. Also going to do a cam belt while we have it all apart.
I'm also looking to purchase the VCDS/VAG-COM software - can't tell from their site if it would cover our T4. Although my son would make use of it with his VR6 MK1 Golf.
Looking for some advice on best place to purchase the timing tools and it seems there are special tool(s) required to get front panels off.

The only special tool required is to unhook the lower panel at either end. I tried the plastic one that came with the van & couldn't get on with it so I use a hook to push under the headlight & then twist to pull on the top of the panel. If it hasn't been off for some time it can stick in position. I put a small amount of Teflon grease on the pegs to make it easier next time. Be careful not to chip any paint, maybe wrap something soft over the hook.
Re VCDS, go to post no 6.

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Some of them, you can reach up behind the bumper and push the panel out.
