This problem has been raised before there is a relay in the fuse box number 30 if I am right its a known fault , mine had the same issue it would just cut out without reason any time of day etc . I would then have to sit and wait for a while and it would then start as normal [admits here it stuck me in a line of traffic but I was able to just get it off the road by turning the engine over in gear a slow crawl but it got me clear ] The dealers could not find the fault but a parts guy overheard me telling the service people about the problem and he interrupted us to suggest I change this relay and it never happened again . Now I will admit here mine would not start at all when it played up but yours will start so there may be another issue at play Here is a link to someone else with the same sort of problem it may also help T4 stalling problem and this one Spark but NO start

Problem with this solution is that this is a gas/petrol conversion which means relay 30 no longer controls the ECU (bypassed by the gas/petrol C/o relays). You can pull relay 30 out and the car will still start and run, merely a little rough.
Currently looking at the possibility that the overflow tank is leaking and dripping water onto the distributor. Remote chance of problem, but it could have been getting into the Hall sensor wiring. Don't know yet. Could still be something else, but...
Thanks for the reply and ideas though... still unsure if this motor has a crank sensor. Cant find one.
