What were the details on the invoice for the troubleshooting? There must be more to it?

I have a 4 year old transporter 132 kw that has only done 45,000kms. The Catalytic Con light came on, took it to the dealer who checked it and yes there is a problem and now I have to take it back for further testing. No matter which part is the problem the labour cost is 6 to 8 hrs and if it is just the cheaper part it is $800 for that part. All up $2000 plus. Anyone heard of this before.

What is "that" part? Need more details....
Can't have it properly tested till monday, but they computer tested it and said it was either the cooler or the ECG ? valve . The ECG valve was the cheap part at $800.
Are you sure its an ECG and not and EGR ??? apparently EGR's are all the rage in Europe and I mean customer rage . This may enlighten you to its place in the engine and what it does EGR system FAQ for VW and Audi TDI | VW TDI forum, Audi, Porsche, and Chevy Cruze diesel forum
. In the UK there are heaps of stories about blanking off the EGR you may need someone to do some code changes as it triggers a fault light . From reports on the net better economy better turbo spooling .These can be bought for $15 Also has the DPF regened from reports here in Aus this can be a problem if the van only does short trips . What you could try is to drive for 20 minutes in 3rd gear at around 80kmh this apparently will force the DPF to regen .

You are right it is the EGR valve. Thanks for your advice.
here is an alternative one to VW part check application to see if it suits VW Transporter T5 Multivan 2009 EGR Valve Exhaust Gas Recirculation 2 0L TDI | eBay
Will check, thank you.
132kw motor with an EGR failure is a big-ish job.
Front needs to be partially detached from the van to gain access to the EGR for removal.
I would be persuing some sort of goodwill assistance from Volkswagen, given the low kilometers and commonality of the failure.

I'm fairly sure I had this problem when my MY11 132kw was only 1yr old, luckily still under warranty, as it was a big job apparently.
