You're comparing apples to oranges.
I am looking at upgrading my T5 '05 LWB FWD van for newer version and in 4 motion and am surprised at the prices of these vehicles in comparison to other 4 motion vehicles within the VW commercial range.
For example, the Amarok 4 motion dual cab is considerably cheaper, in particular the MY13 models they are currently advertising (approx 10k difference). Even the Transporter cab chassis 4 motion is priced higher than Amarok.
I know they are different vehicle bodies but they all share similar drive trains and engines..
I may have to further my research into the specs of these vehicles and pros/cons of each....

Plus there is a big sales push on Amarok at the moment.
Which I believe can't make very happy those who like to upgrade their cars every 3-4 years. The resale value is badly down even with out the sales push.
Luckily for me, I like to keep my cars for a bit longer, which means I will keep them even longer or not to sell them at all. I can keep my T5 4Motion and sell it as a vintage long after I'm retired.

Transporter is made in Europe, Amarok is made in Argentina. Transporter 4Motion is low volume, Amarok is not. Transporter 4Motion is almost always a factory order, rather than taken from local stock (like Amarok)...put simply you have no leverage to bargain with a Transporter 4Motion unless you luck onto a dealer somewhere who is trapped with one
