    I would install the ATF temperature gauge first and then cooler if needed.

    Dont know about the Vw's temps but my 100 ser Croozer had a temp gauge on the auto and it ran at 65-75deg and never got up over 80 except once on the Willunga Hill near Adelaide and that was towing a 3 tonne van on a hot day. Got up to about 97 that day.

    The EGT was reading 515 post turbo so was backing off and changing down to get temps down.

    I can't find the thread I was looking for that detailed temps an owner read after fitting a temp gauge.
    Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
