Towbar for Multivan _ very confused !

    Hi all,

based on the Central Coast of NSW and need to get a towbar fitted to a 2006 Multivan. The dealer has quoted around $1500 with an emphasis that a large part of that relates to the specific wiring loom etc. A local towar place has quoted around $800 for a hayman reece towbar and wiring kit. My question is will the cheaper quote be okay re any issues with the rear arking sensors etc. I have read about the Can Bus ? problems , seem to be getting more confused by the minute. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts ?

    many thanks
    Peter

Hi Peter, I have a 2010 T5 and know that my particular van has this rewiring issue. Not aware of any othe years. The big problem is that the wiring for the towbar if hooked upto the tail light, normal procedure, the ECU might reject this and shut the van down. I could not confirm if that happens on your but know that 2010 has this specific issue due to being the T5.2 version. They did change it after that. Check with VW head office 02 9695 6000 Good luck Other guy I can reccomend is Julian In dural 0405 808 488

Pre-2010 isn't an issue with the wiring. It's all plug and play at the tail lights.

hi Peter have been through this just recently with our new T5 there are ways around these problems as I discovered . Now my mate has a Hayman Reece on his T5 but its the type that has a rear nudge bar as part of the tow bar not very pretty . This one would cause havoc with parking sensors as its level with the bumper bar and is right across from side to side . This one is the one we had fitted to our T5 2004 model it bolts straight on less than than 1 .5 hours http://catalogue.bestbars.co.nz/cata...wagon/6EC0.jpg. As for the wire harness yes there is a factory one but its $480 on its own and I think you have to get the van recoded . Again I went through the same thing with our new T5 and the harness was $600 plus !!! But I ended up buying the harness made by Hayman Reece for $125 and no coding needed . This particular bar even had a VW part number on it with VW part label and was fitted by VW but I am sure you can buy one somewhere in Aus along with the harness for a hell of a lot less than VW price . Try this one http://www.towbarsaustralia.com.au/b....aspx?pid=4126 And this one as well http://www.milford-auto.com/products...prettyPhoto/0/

Hi smitsone, I have the Hayman Reece towbar (not the full length nudge bar) and wiring loom fitted to my 2006 Multivan and no problems whatsoever. All electrics/electronics work including rear parking sensors. It's a good easy bar to use. Cost me 800 and a bit so yours is on the money. Have it properly fitted, you'll be happy
