Tires.....What to get?

Hi All, the Michelin Pilot Premacy tyres 235/55/17 103Y mine came with new are 35k old, worn enough to need replacing, and are chipping/chunking off. Anyone else experience this? The Michelin guy said they were not suitable for the car, but that's what it came with!? I have been told there are Yokohama and COntinental alternatives. anyone had any experience with those? I've had to replace two of the Michelins at $495!! and have been quoted $320 for the Yokohamas.

Don't buy Michelin Pilot Premacy. They will not last.
So far I've done 30,000km now on the Hankook HP DynaPro 235/55/17 and I will get min. another 30,000km from these Hankooks - they cost me $195 each - great tyres - will buy them again.
I had Michelin Pilot Premacy before (T5 came on them).
I wouldn't pay $150 for Michelin.

I also would like to raise the suspension, any suggestions?

I found to get long life with the Michelins you need to rotate them every 7500km.
I average about 45-47k out of a set.

What size?
I rotated mine (235/55/17) every 5,000km, kept the pressure up all the time and they still didn't last.
Hankooks will last me double of the Michelins.

You got really good life out of them, considering that many people didn't get 25,000km out of them.
You probably drive more on hwy, I do city and hills, many round abouts, reversing and parking. What did/will you buy as replacement tyres?

Hi Peder,

My 4Motion Trakkadu also came with 16" Michelins (Agilis 51). At 45K they look like going to 70K+ easily. It's strange the variability in experience compared to the 17" Michey's. This has included a 10K round trip to Cape Yorke, and the Batemans Bay off-road trip with the Syncro (T3) group, so plenty of off-road use, and no damage to the side-walls. (Some 'gravel rash' on the rear wheel paint work though I did some pretty fast kilometers on the gravel up there). So I wouldn't rush into changing your Michey's, unless you're really pushing the limits of traction. The extra ground clearance of some higher tyres would be useful, especially if you have the LWB van like mine, but the value argument for these tyres is getting hard to go past.

On ground clearance, I've found the "King Springs" from Pedders for the rear to be a useful and economical (~$350) addition. Anything beyond that seems to get into big money. Even so, watch out for scraping under the fuel tank on berms & things. I'll be getting my third set of fuel tank straps on my coming service. If any-one knows of a good, economical guard for this area, i'd like to hear of it. I can get the Seikel one through Trakka, but at $2350 it's hard to justify when the straps are only $25.

I ended up getting the Dynapro 23's fitted today for $199 each. So far so good but need to test them in a few different conditions first.

I have about 25k on these now and I think I will only get another 5-7k out of them.....Not real impressive really.

What tyre pressure do you use? I pump mine 50psi fr and re.
I also rotate them every 5,000km (rotate the spare tyre as well) I've done 30,000km on them now and will do another 20,000km. My van is fully loaded 100% of the time and we have a lot of roundabouts around.

So, they work for me I will buy them again.

I run about 48PSI in them. Have not rotated them though.

Tyre guy said he should be able to get something that will last 50k easy so will see what he comes up with.

Tyres on my landcruiser lasted 80k so compared to that I was feeling a little let down.
