    TDI camshaft bearing caps

hi all, have had an issue with my 2004 T5 TDI which we have tracked down to the injector harness. I have ordered one from VW and it's due today but not yet arrived. Anyway I couldn't work out how to remove the old harness and in the end took the bearing cap off that holds the harness adaptor ring in place. It has 3 Torx head bolts around M6 size. Now that it is apart I can see how it should have come off and will add some photos etc for the next person who wants to do this job but for now what I need is what torque to do these 3 bolts back up to.

I think they may be strech bolts as well but at this stage I am not planning on replacing them as I doubt VW have them in stock heere in Brisbane and not sure that they are sold seperately. IE probably need to buy the complete head bolt kit??

So does anybody know what the torque setting on these 3 bolts should be?

Hey Toolman, i am a little confused, are you talking about the 1.9l tdi engine using unit(piezo) injectors and the round wiring connector on the side of the engine head? If you can provide me with a vin will check it out for you tomorrow morning first thing

    Cheers,

    James

hi James, mines the first of the T5's hence 2004. It's the TDI 2.5 with the injectors and harness inside the head. Engine code is AXE.
Vin is WV1zzzz7h5h010748 and the harness no is 070971033.

    thanks, Lou

    8 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
    Renew.

You are talking about the bearing cap with the 2 half moon facings in it correct?

    wv1zzz7hz5h010748 is your vin too.

This is what I like about this forum, members with the knowledge or access to the info helping another dubber. Without this forum & members like jamesdavid, the OP would just have to guess. Sometimes this works, other times not. This is becoming increasingly important as the level of technology increases.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

    Hi Toolman

I have the same problem. I own a 2004 VW TDI 2.5 t5 128kw with engine code AXE. Was this a big job to do, I would like to attempt it myself but cannot find any online manuals to assist? Are you able to let me know where you purchased your harness and the cost?

    Cheers
    Brett
