Thanks for that I suppose economy would be different depending how far through the floor you plant the foot on the throttle ! I''ll bet it gets off from the lights pretty smartly , would love to have that extra oomph when over taking as my standard 2.0 petrol needs more ponies to get by safely . I have tried a cat o nine tails but makes no difference it just can't be bothered Ha Ha

I think it was an option in the T5GP but then they dropped the TDi400 for the previous model. While back in T5 days you could buy the most powerful engine in a Crewvan but not with wing doors and later that changed and they added wing doors. So each time options were available I wasn't in the market and when I am the options are not available. And you head off to volkswagen.co.uk and discover All is available.

It burns me that I'm willing to spend upto $70K but it won't be a full factory fitted van. And there is no LWB Vito 119 Crew Cab either or 4x4.

Just found this video that might interest fellow vanners.

Now If I could sneak in and alter the options codes and see what would happen for an Australian delivered van

Good video, thanks for posting it.

Those of you guys, who think about a new Vito or ever Sprinter, do your homework really well.
IMO, the VW is far better in every way, especially the customer service and most importantly the supply of the spares. It looks like that MB is not keeping as much spares in AU and don't care how quickly they get them here when the need arises.

I was interested to see the towbar behind the foremans head seems like it's a cleaner system than on offer here , also precise as the Germans can be 21 minutes for lunch . Ha Ha thanks for posting quite interesting .

nice to see T6's underbelly is quite well protected (plastic cover), the T5 looks exposed underneath

Yes there were quite a few who noticed lack of under floor plastics when the T5.1 was released along with a few other bits and pieces , not sure who to blame VW in Germany or VWA trying to have production costs reduced for increase in profits .

Having driven the new T6 TDi400 4motion for a couple of days I can say there have been some good improvements in the drive train. The motor is quieter (imo) and especially when stopped when the bluemotion kicks in. It pulls a little better than the T5.2 (2012) and feels effortless at all speeds. The DSG is a big improvement with it being smoother in transition from P to D or R. The van only slightly creeps with you foot off the brake till you accelerate.
The only downside is the is that you can not buy a Crewvan and there are a number of draw backs to buyinf a Transporter and trying to up spec. The aftermarket rear seats are good but they are not the same as the factory seats. They are a little lower, hard to tip and flip forward and not quite flat when folded forward. They are also mounted further back in the van (about 10cm) so a little less room behind the seats. And the final draw back is that the mounts for the seat on the floor are not flush when the seat is removed.
Also you can not specify the C-rail on the roof on any Transporter... WHY?
I will adjust but VW Aust should be allowing the Crewvan to be ordered from the factory.

    Hi Snowmotion.

Thanks for the info as I'm looking at exactly the same spec. Is your 2nd row seats a Techsafe brand with headrests and armrests. They make a couple of models called Excel and Premier. I agree the Caravelle 3 seater and Crewvan 3seater are much better seats for long distance driving. You can buy Caravelle seats in the UK and apparently iirc their trim matches a Transporer. The hassles is all the engineering, which is totally unnecessary if VW Aust woke up and offered something closer to their UK family. I was thinking of using a much thicker wooden flooring to try and recess the mountings for aftermarket seats. Is the position further back of the aftermarket seats a necessity for leaving enough room for when folded forward to avoid touching the front seats if they're slid back as far as possible?

In my quote I asked for factory wooden floor and then rubber floor on top of this which is on my current T5. I'm glad to hear you feel the drivetrain is better again over the T5GP, as the Merc's 7sp auto offers much smoother driving to my last experience of a Transporter tdi340 with dsg.

The seat is the Techsafe Safety Excel seat with headrests and armrests. If you needed a baby seat this seat would be a bonus as you can attache the harness to it but my children and well beyond this. So a taller, more solid seat would be better.
The postion seems to be the discression of the fitter, I would have to double check if there is room to go forward with the mount but from a folding point of view I would think so, I was looking at another Transporter T5 today with the same seat and it was further forward. So best make sure you talk to the installer to get it in the best position. Mind you, my kids will love the leg room.
The wooden floor may help to reduce the impact of the mounts, we have the rubber mat, but they just mount it on top of the rubber mount.
