Keep us posted I would imagine that if enough people make some noise back to Germany then VWA might be convinced to release the TSI here . Seems like they have just told Germany that the Aussie market only wants diesel , typical of car importers to get it wrong . Look at the different number of grey imports over the last twenty years , local importers ignored what they perceived as non sellers only to see those cars sell out all of their quotas .Toyota Soarer Mitshubishi Delica Toyota Surf just to name a few , the line that the 2.0 petrol VW was a slow seller here was easily able to be understood . It was a slug underpowered and totally unsuitable for a country like ours , I reckon VWA deliberately steered people away from the petrol as they would make more money from the higher priced diesel vans . We all know the issues that VW have had with diesels of late , and then add things like DPF failures timing belts EGR valves and as usual these things end up being expensive . So a petrol alternative would make more sense WITH Turbo .

Good luck with the service, I have a T5.2 TSI, and I got it serviced last year, they took 3 weeks to get the oil filter, as VW did not have the part, they had never seen a T5 TSI ( obviously it was the reason i got the T5 TSI for such a good price, i did not want Diesel as they are now too complicated/too many issues with their anti-pollution filter when you do only normal/short drive)

I had never seen a TSI being available here before the T6 was slated to have one , was it a special order ???? or maybe an import from the UK .

So stupid pf VW not being able to order a Crew Van in TDI with 4motion. I had to order a Transporter and add stupidly packaged option. I can only hope that one day VW learn how to focus on their consumers needs.

I'm going to go to a VW dealership and ask the question if I could order a RH drive VW and have it shipped to Australia after explaining to them the change in import rules after 2018.
I don't see the logic of only being able to import cars from Japan or the UK they are made in RH drive in Germany and meet all our standards.
Exactly the point a number of people are making as well. You can buy a RHD VW in Germany from the factory direct, built to Euro (including UK) standards, so restricting it to the UK is stupid uninformed government speak .... even RHD cars built in South Africa would comply and in fact BMW, Mercedes and VW build cars in South Africa for export to Australia!

Its still 2 years away so things could (and probably will change). I'd love to order directly from the factory and pickup from that fancy delivery tower in Germany

That is very funny as it is just a Gen 2 EA888 engine and the fuel filter from any GTI, TSI Tiguan, TSI Amarok or even the 2.0TFSI Audis will fit ...... it was actually closer related to the Audis as it has the valvelift engine from the Q5 I believe.

No freely available from dealers in 2013/2014 I think. Was DSG only which is why I did not buy 1 in the end. Was intent on trading the TDI340 Multivan on it.

Okay Damdam for those who are very interested how does it go ? performance economy [not that that's a big issue ] and it should be a T5.1 never heard of T5.2 only T6 ! Ah but wait I just found a few articles it was the "special edition 'model which was white with black roof and other graphics so I stand corrected . I remember as story of how prince Frederick and Princess Mary were driving one around Tasmania some years back when they were here .And also how I got into a load of trouble because I said black was not a colour , because I thought a black roof was a dumb idea . But let's leave THAT ONE ALONE .

T5.2 MY2014 was avail with TSI (mine is blue highline, not a special ed), economy not so, around 14L, but I dont care (especially now with this petrol price and it s far less than my previous car), but fantastic engine, great flat torque and much better for small/normal use than these new diesels that need to be driven at least 20min to clean.
