From the article it certainly is an upgraded T5 with more focus on technology and interior ergonomics , T7 in 2017 seems like the next generation .

Great mockup, 25" rims and 25.5" tyres!!
Why do all these vehicle artists think we want these wheels?

Would be nice if VW got off their behinds with something of a more cutting edge design instead of the bland, staid dashboards and interiors despite the T5 evolution to date, I personally find it ordinary that VW drag the chain and not release something substantially different until 2017 or 2020 (whatever the year). More variety and competition in the market please to get VW moving quickly! Cheers, Scott
Artists impressions are always overboard to excite the prospective buyer and show design cues/lines.
Unfortunately the only all new vehicles in this class are the Ford Transit Custom and Mercedes Benz V-class/Vito, only the MB visually carries panache while the other looks dowdy IMO. Not much you can really do with van design. I think VW has a good style language for this class while not exactly exciting it does not date in a hurry. Which keeps all T-series owners happy with higher residuals.

The T5 has aged incredibly well.
When it comes time to update, I think I'll just put the later front on it.

As I've hinted before I'm just waiting for Vito and T5 replacements to be released and then I buy. I'm impressed with the various road-tests and vids I've seen of the new Vito, fwd, rwd and awd variants, conventional 7spd auto with 140kW tdi's. The rear looks more squared off which will help my case with forklift loading of 200l drums and 1000L ibc's.
My current T5 is still a fantastic drive, even with flaring 2-3 change every now and then. Where the Transit and up coming Trafic will show it up is in value for money. $1500 on the Ford gets you front and rear parking sensors and a reverse camera. And an auto is on the way although I think it needs a more powerful version like the I5 from the Ranger. I'm not sure if it's VW Australia that is the problem or it's parent company. The passenger car side has grown its premium euro image but I now hear jokes about "What's VW's second most popular new car option....The extended warranty". In the commercial vehicle world in today's economic climate the value equation, always important has grown more so due to better competition. It's the oldest van out there so I can cut it some slack. Hopefully the new Transporter can resolve the value issues and increase choice of model variants/options.

Quote / I now hear jokes about "What's VW's second most popular new car option....The extended warranty". Well it make sense even yesterdays motoring section was doing a report on the latest Jeep model and they compared the problems it had with VW Golfs . The last time VW received the Car Of The Year award the judges all stated they would not keep one past warranty date . Lets hope that VW have learnt from previous shortcomings .
