T6 4motion DSG gears too short

    Hey All,

Recently picked up my new T6 4motion dsg. It's a beautiful drive although I'm finding the gears shift up a bit too early... seems like it shifts at 2k rpm although 1 gear up would be at 1.8k rpm, essentially shifting every 200rpm? I've tried driving in "S", although I don't like how it hangs in high rpm when no throttle is applied.

What are your thoughts on DSG tuning?

It's 7 speed DSG, it idles at approximately 800rpm, so shift every 200 rpm from that point is spot on, since the max torque is somewhere between 1500-2000 rpm. The transmissions have more gears these days to keep the engine at the ideal torque band without too much of variation in rpm.

Surely there will be (maybe already is) the DSG tune available, but unless you could flick between the tunes, you have a good chance that you'll be disappointed with the result.

After driving with a bit of a load today It doesn't seem too bad. I just throw it into S when I need to pull into highway traffic. I think I might just be too used to 5 / 6 speed boxes with longer gears.

The van is superb! When service time times. What oil is best for the TDI400 bitdi 132kw and 7sp dsg?

The engine takes a VW 507.00 spec oil. There are several threads here about them. It's not difficult to get at the usual autoparts chainstores.

The DSG takes Pentosin FFL2. Google it to find the source, or buy it from the dealer.

Nulon make a 507.00 spec in a 20 litre drum.
Seems to be about the best value.

edit - Congrats on your new machine!

I stick with European made oils for Euro engines. If you buy your own oil make sure you get "approved" oil which is not the same as made or exceeds VW specs.
