    hello,
I am about to get some new tyres for my 05 4motion. Its an ex nsw ambulance that has raised suspension but looks odd as it is still on the original 16 inch alloys that are pretty badly scratched up. Id like to fill the wheel arches out a bit by increasing rim size and a bit bigger tyre.

Is there an issue with increasing wheels from 16 to 17 inch? other than speedo. my main concern is the braking as i know later 17 inch vans came with Big brakes.
Im looking at some 17 x8 king steelies for $145 each

Ive read the thread but no one has mentioned maxtrek tyres as an option. anyone had any experience with them? Id like to go the full AT look but i know they will be city tyres first and only ever get light gravel and some flat sand beach action. Thoughts?

The rim load limit is 850kg for the 17"rims, make sure you get the rims with the right load rating for your van.

They look great. I are these steelies readily available? I want some for my Amarok...

This is my impression from the two new Dunlop Maxx RT 235/55/17 103Y fitted to the front. (Previously had Dunlop Sport 01 and Dunlop Maxx TT).
Positives: feel most secure thru the twisties, and fun-to-drive, more engaging to drive. Low noise. Loss of grip is very progressive.
Negatives: ride is still good but ever slightly harsher than Maxx TT, probably similar to Sport 01. Esthetically, sidewall looks boring (just smooth rubber).

At the rear, I am still running comfort-orientated Michelin Premacy 3 ST.
    Multivan MY12 TSI350 Red. Previous: 2008 Tiguan 103Tdi. 2010 Tiguan 125TSi.

Just booked in with Tyrepower for a couple of Maxxis MAP1?
    $229 each fitted.
Thats what was on it when I bought it so will stick with them as most of the comments I have read here say they are decent tyres

What size scouser? About to upgrade from R16 65's to R17 ?? The guy at the shop said R17 65's is the way to go, which seem to be more of an SUV size, and would change the speedo by close to 10% I would think. I can see from the comments some are running R17 55's which would make more sense to me. It should have closer to the same rolling circumference?

I've not made mods to the transporter, been stock for years. Interested to know what sizes people are running so no rookie mistakes made

Also, did you buy all 5 when going up a size or keep the 16 for a spare. This was my other concern about not having close to the same rolling circumference and only buying 4. I know you can get away with different sizes on the rear (short term) but a flat on the front means changing to wheels.

What have you guys done? All 5?

I always buy all 5, since I always rotate the spare as well. Currently have Hankook RA23 for a second time.
