    t5 trouble

I have a 2005 lwb 2.5tdi van with 107Ks on the clock (purchased with 38k on it)

it had the usual problems - power steering pump and heat exchanger replaced about 5 factory cd players under warranty until I dumped it for a Sony deck.

Now I think the water pump has gone too (after searching some posts) but my van has another problem the oil light keeps coming on at higher rpm's (above say 2000 when driving) and the oil level is fine can this be related to the water pump?
ie water in oil and it then airating

its been serviced every 15thou with either vw spec 506.01 or 507
would 507 spec oil cause any problems (van has no DPF)

do these engines sludge up if the wrong oil is used
love my van and want it fixed

The water pump has nothing to do with your oil light coming on, if it just recently failed. However if you were driving for a long time and topping the coolant, then it could have a lot to do with the leaking water pump and the engine internals could be worn out enough for the oil light to come on (water and oil is not good lubricant for the engine).

Regarding the 507.00 oil in your 2005 T5, it is a wrong specs oil for that engine/year and it will cause the excessive valve train wear. Usually the engines that were using wrong oil are much noisier.

You need to take it to VW independent or VW dealer to diagnose it properly. I suggest Camden GTI contact Golf Loon in the forum.

    Thanks

I was topping up the coolant.
went down the coast and it used about 600ml for 200lkms of driving had to top it up to get home and thats when the light come on.
turned her off checked oil level seemed ok drove for a bit more then on it came again so shut it down and got a lift home( only 20min away) got a trailer and transported it home. So I am hoping that its just water in the oil.

Got the pump out and its shagged very slight oil/ water sludge in intake hose too. will flush out engine with an engine flush additive.
as for 507 only had it in there for one 15thou klm service interval, rest of the time its been 506.01

I know 506.01 is 0/30weight and 507 is 5/30 and I herd that they went to 507 as engines with 506.01 in them started to use oil over the service period

puttin all the bits back in tonight after work so I will see how things go

Yep, that was similar when my pump went, after topping 300ml I did 15km drive home and reservoir was empty.
I used Penrite HPR Diesel5 5W40 as a flushing oil to clean the engine after I replaced my water pump. The HPR Diesel5 has VW506.01 on the label but it is not VW approved for 506.01 here is the thread (you probably saw it)

Here is a bit of reading what can incorrect oil do to your TDI PD cam failure - Data collection thread - TDIClub Forums

    Good luck.

dismantled van and got the turbo out as expected needs a bearing and seal kit
Anyone know where to get one ?
inspected the thermostat and the rubber seal ring was floating around in the housing ...nice!
also inspected exhaust manifold and guess what cracked !
loosing confidence in this van as every thing that gos wrong with them, has gone wrong with this one expecting the cam and tranny to fail next
