    T5 Transporter Blind Spot Mirror

    Hey Guys

My dad has a dual cab T5 with the large rectangular mirrors and wants to put in a blind spot mirror. I was wondering if there is another option besides those little tacky stick on ones? Was there ever a factory or OEM option for them? Is there any after market mirror glass that's aspherical?

    Thanks

My kombi beach mirrors both have a dotted line down them showing the section which is distorted to bring the blind area into view. Does he have these and if so are they inadequate?

My T5 also has the blind spot mirrors as Brian J interesting the wifes T5 does not have them and they are only 11 months difference . I don,t know if you have noticed this interesting thing but the dotted line is quite neatly a great guide for lane changing . The passengers side has a horizontal line and the drivers vertical line , from the driving position when I look out the passengers side if the cars front wheels on the inside appears above the line I can change lanes with out problem on the drivers side if the car is behind the line its also safe to change . It would depend on how you place the mirrors but it works for me .

I have a vague recollection (and might have changed with the years), that the double cabs had larger, more 'truck like' mirrors, presumably to cope with potentially wider loads. Being more 'truck like' they may well have missed out on the built in blind spot sections.

Yep the double cab has massive truck mirrors, they do a good job but because the vehicle is so long, they can only cover so much, particularly on the left hand side of the vehicle.

Maybe some sort of caravan towing clipon mirrors could help.

Re: T5 Transporter Blind Spot Mirror

I have a 2011 duel cab, I don't think the mirrors your after are available in our model, though I could be wrong. I am looking at putting on those cheap stick on ones but have been holding of because I think they look ugly, and aso make the mirrors harder to clean, will hey fall off over time? because of the heated mirrors. I don't know.

Have you seen the "split" mirrors that come on some vehicles? They can be quite disconcerting because they make a vehicle further out appear closer in. A car in the 3rd lane appears to be in the 2nd lane until it gets into the main part of the mirror.

My Caddy has one of them, but I also have a circular spot mirror on both sides, and a wedge mirror on the driver's side. My mirrors are heated, and there is no hint of them falling off. There is also no issue with cleaning.

I have had wedge mirrors on my cars since the late 1970's and find them excellent.

If you fit wedge mirrors, they are fitted in the lower left corner of the driver's mirror, and spot mirrors are fitted to the lower right corner of the driver's mirror (i.e. the wedge mirrors inboard, and the spot mirrors outboard).
