The head unit is from Erisin in China my favourite supplier , model ES9015 The Digital Tuner is Pure Highway 300Di it is a fantastic unit as you can see it sits neatly in that little recess .The cable connects to one of the two USB ports on the back of the head unit . there is another module that is in behind the glove box for connections of power etc . One good thing is that it comes with the same plug as the VW so all I had to do was disconnect the head unit from the VW one plug in the Pure one and then plug the head unit into the secondary Pure connection piece of cake .You can use your original antennae but I fitted the one which cam with the Pure unit and then connect direct through it gives better reception .Neat function you can connect and control Apple Iphones and also pause live radio so if you stop at a servo you just push the pause button and it will store up to 15 minutes of music so when you come back it starts from where you stopped . I got mine from an Ebay Auction brand new $188 delivered pretty good buy as they normally sell for over $270+ in most places. I think the poor guy who sold it put it on auction thinking the bids would go higher than they did so I got it for a bargain price .

What year are you fitting it into if the 2010 onwards then you will need a adapter shroud as the 2010 onwards has the oblong opening , if earlier then it should be fine .

Yeah 2010+ the quote I got includes the shroud, RVC and connection to steering wheel controls.
I'm more interested in thoughts on the unit itself.

I was going to get the 7" alpine CarPlay unit but it's got very limited features. The pioneer unit is streets ahead as far as functionality across phone platforms.

No I fitted an external one from a Nissan Xtrail you can buy them from Autobarn shops . It does work but still not as good as the factory . VW have made the Diversity antennae system and its "tuned" to the factory head units . That's why any aftermarket radio will probably have fair onlyreception , I ll post a photo soon for you .

Radio reception is good and sat Nav works wells.

    Reversing carmera will not show?
and no sound relayed to the stereo when using the VW factory Bluetooth.

I fitted a brand new one Erisin the other day to my T5 its the latest Android 5.1 I was drawn to the newer model because it has DAB+ now . The older one I fitted last year was sold to a friend so this one is the very latest design . These Erisin models have Bluetooth built in no need for the VW part . Now I will admit that at first after pairing my Galaxy S6 it connected fine and works fine , but I could not get any music via Bluetooth until I discovered you need to click on the A2DP app in the app menu instantly the music from the phone is accessed . You can control the phone music from the head unit and any phone calls can be answered directly from that same app . The DAB is brilliant I had fitted a Pure DAB radio as an add on to the old one and it was a pain , signal would drop out and it was awkward to find stations in the menu . How did you connect the reverse camera and what year is your T5 as the early ones you need to connect a signal wire from the reverse lights to activate the camera after 2010 it is part of the head unit connection so no need for that wire .I like the DVR feature as it records to a SD card onboard and you can review the video without taking the card to a PC . GPS software is brilliant as well very up to date mapping with heaps of new functions .
