Here is a thumbs up to sunny. Thanks for your help yesterday. That talk we had, got the cogs moving in my mind.

For the others out there here is what I'm talking about.

Ordered a erisin ES3048v running lollipop 5.1.1 and fitted it to a 2015 multivan using just the factory wiring. Ordered from the wholesale site with the adaptor es350 for $380 including postage.

    Problems I encounted was
Not powering on or off with the key.
Bluetooth was active even with car turned off and locked.
Reversing camera not showing up on the screen.
and a few other small menu problems.

After talking with sunny I found we both had connected the stereo differently. Me using factory, sunny aftermarket.
What I found was on the back off the unit there is some canbus switches. These turned out to switch wiring settings.
After a little trial and error got the reversing camera to work(with no wires except the audio plug in)
and the power settings now work correctly wich turns the unit off with the keys removed So Bluetooth is now only active when the car is.

So in summery user manuals are S**t and if using factory harness pay attention to the canbus switches. Members on this forum are an invaluable source if good information.

Cheers Husky, good information. Looking at the various models on the Erisin and the Siecane site the models look virtually the same and specced almost identical! Possibly sourced from the same factory on China? The thing for me is the components per detailed specs appears to be good and known brands and as there are very limited chip manufacturers in the world whether the named branded products are really any different in reality. I would be happy with either of these brands based on the latest specs for price/value. Cheers, Scott

Hi Howard, do you know if the two facia strips can be removed either side of my oem CD player to accommodate a 230 mm wide version instead of a 188mm wide double din size? Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott I have looked at our older T5 2004 and the side strips are part of the surrounding facia , I would need to actually see a much closer shot of yours to be sure but if you can see a gap between the head unit and those sides then it will only be a standard double din size if there is no gap at the side of the main unit then it well may be the larger size like in the Toureag which would be the same as the one posted .

Hi Howard, Thank you. I suspect you are correct, the side strips are part of the facia and cannot be separated. See attached link for a UK transporter, although there were two different versions even on the RHD pre face lift; the squared off that we have here in AUS and also slightly rounder fascia for RHD in UK. Please see link.

    Dash Trim Fascia Panel Button Surround Replacement T5 2003 - 2009 & Facelift 2010+

I have also checked mine more closely and short of pulling the fascia off (without breaking it) the side strips appear to be part of the fascia panel, although it also seems that there are gaps between the strips and panel as if they are seperate. I have also looked at many models on line for the pre-face lifts in AUS (say on Carsales) and all are Double DIN (same size as the picture I attached earlier up) and not wider to the total edge of the fascia (beyond the strips). So short of cutting the strips out of the fascia (messy option) it would appear limited to the double din size only. The wider 230mm by 118mm 'Tourage version' version would have been nice..!

Here is another shot which will be the same as mine.

I have reattached a photo of my dash, but you might have to zoom in or copy to your desk top to get a zoomed in view.

    Thanks again, Scott

It looks like standard double din radio in yours. The Touareg RCD510 will fit but it will be sticking up a bit, in other word it won't slide fully in. I've tried that in my T5.

Many thanks Transporter. It's a bummer width wise and depth then. At least I will now focus on double din options. Cheers, Scott

I would stay with the double din unit a lot less grief , I can see that VW seemed to allow for the wider unit like in your first link but there is no way it will fit yours because directly beside the opening is the main support parts for the whole dash facia remove it and there would be nothing for another radio to attach onto .Not sure if you saw the conversion I did to my work van it is a 2005 model with 2010 onwards style head unit installed its here half way down the page T5 transporter aftermarket radio options doing this allowed me to have bigger screen and the very latest Android operating system , I will admit its not a job for the faint hearted it was a lot of careful cutting and finishing to get it to integrate neatly . Plus having to cut up a brand new facia !! at least the new top section just clipped straight in no mods required .

Android 5.1.1 HD 1024*600 touch screen GPS navigation system for 1999-2005 VW Volkswagen T5 with DVD player Radio OBD2 DVR TV 1080P Video 3G WIFI IPOD Steering Wheel Control USB SD Bluetooth backup camera Quad-core CPU Mirror link

For those whom are interested, this would seem the Siecane model number for VW T5 prior to T5.1. Probably very similar in appearance and specification to the Erisin ES7648 V7" Sunny has posted.

Transporter, I gather then there is isn't really a viable OEM RDC version then for this 2008 model because of not an extact fit? Cheers, Scott
