T5 Temperature gauge- Fake news?

Im guessing its common across the VW range.. but once warmed up my T5’s (2.5 TDI 128kw) temperature gauge never moves! Its always exactly 90 degree’s! The ambient temperature could be below freezing or 50 degrees C fully loaded driving up a mountain and the gauge wouldnt fluctuate 1mm!

Obviously I dont believe the running temperature never varies..

Is this just electronic trickery that would lead one to believe that VW has the most amazing temperature regulation system on the planet while just actually not showing us any variation within a specified safe range?

It’s what you want to believe in. I like the VW gauges, they’re very accurate for the driver. If you want to see the temperature fluctuations to the resolution of 1 deg. C , connect your scanner to the diagnostic socket for the comparison. I had 2005 T5 4Mo with exactly same engine and I couldn’t fault the gauges. Obviously the all aluminium engine will maintain the temperature using the thermostat much better than cast iron block and Al Cyl. Head in majority of the vehicles out there.

I know on my T6, that the gauge sits at around 90, but the MFD tells me its about 100 on the screen

2007-2018, 330,000km and I never ever once saw the T5's engine temp gauge go past 90degC even when idling in Punt Road, Richmond in gridlocked traffic with the outside temp gauge showing 47deg C.

Its not so much what I want to believe, Once warmed up my gauge has never ever moved at all from the 90 degree mark! Its like its welded in place!

Therefore its not a true temperature gauge... and I dont believe the thermostat can keep the engine in a 1 degree range from freezing to temps of around 47 degrees C that Ive driven in fully loaded!

I suspect the electronics keep the gauge from showing any change inside maybe a 15-20 degree range?
