T5 Tailgate Rust

During a routine cleaning of the rear door I pulled out the rubber between the body and tailgate that hold the wiring at the top of the chassis. I discovers that the hole in the chassis was pretty rusted out. Mine is only a 2010 model T5 LWB so not that old. VW was on it quick smart and with in 1 week after checking it at Barlow World Mascot VW got the OK for warranty repair and a loan van for 2 days. Please check your vans

Do you mean the grommet used for the wiring to go from the body to the tailgate ?

Mine 2005 4Motion is OK. I can't see any rust on the body. I wouldn't expect the rust so soon, the VW's are quite good in that regard.
Do you live very close to the beach?

It is more like rubbehose on the left hand top on a T5 with a HAtch back door

I know, too soon and dont live anywhere near a the ocean. Slightly puzzled with it. next problem is not rear shocks as I got some od tyre wear.
