I'll second that Jimmy. I spoke with Macron also and they were more than helpful which was refreshing. Website is www.macroncampers.com.au

Hi Rob, Macron campers are at 4 mills st Ourimbah, New South Wales, they are on the web just google macron campers . They mainly do custom fitouts for horsefloats, trucks etc. I did ask him about the rib seat/bed you guys have over there, but it's not available here. he suggested the rock and roll bed . My van has two sliding doors and I don't want to block the RHS door off, no probs with him in discussing my own layout. Hope you and your family have a safe and stress free move over here, and as you probably are aware, bring as much stuff for your new van here as you can ! just amazing the choice over there compared to here

FYI the NSW Ambulance Service does not own the Ambulances. They are leased from Macquarie Bank.

The T5's are not used for general duties in Sydney but are used in rural areas. They are 'turned over' at two years or 100,000km whichever happens first. Yours may have been a city car that was not used by the troops.

The very first T5's were the best. VW must have paid attention to quality control for the new model. The latest T5's, 2008 and later with the grey bull/nudge bar have had a fair percentage of Turbo's blow if held over 150kph for any length of time.

Most have easy long kays from long distance transports but they have all been flogged mercilessly at some stage. Serviceing is regular as are Roo hits.

Thanks for the info Code4, I didn't know they were owned by Macbank !! The only clue I had to were my van was stationed was that the service ( it had only had 1 ) was done at Lane Cove in Sydney. I crawled all over it before buying, it was the only 1 for sale that day that didn't have red dust under the chassis ! 1 bloke I spoke to who works for NSW ambo service told me that it was probably stuck at the back of the garage behind a few other ambo's, so that is why it had such low k's . One thing I have noticed since being converted to a camper is that it is using slightly less fuel, must be the new roof has less wind resistance than mid roof ? J

    another T5 ex-ambo

    Hi All,

I bought a 2005 T5 ex-ambo a few months ago, now affectionatley known as the "Shambulance" and had the interior trimmed (carpeted floor and walls, headlining, etc), dual batteries, a removable, fold down 3 seater fitted behind the front seats (reclining, armrests, headrestraints and in-built child restraint anchors), black privacy tints all round, sliding windows in the twin sliders. Have built a removable double bed (with storage underneath) which fits in at the same time as the second row of seats. Have kept the mid roofline, which I like. Also fitted curtain tracks and curtains and have sailtrack fitted to both sides which allows the stand alone drive away side tent to be fitted to one side and an open tarp/awning fitted to the other.

Fitted tie down points to the interior floor for carrying motor bikes as well, when not in "bed mode". This van is the most versatile car I've ever owned and after having 2 T3's it is pure luxury to drive! My wife is also very impressed with the modern TDI VW and has bought herself a 2008 Jetta, black, tan leather interior 6sp manual and all the bells and whistles with an Oettinger chip installed, giving very impressive power and torque figures.

The T5 is returning impressive fuel economy, I can carry heaps of stuff or nothing at all, we can camp in it, my son can cart bikes about in it, couldn't be happier!
    Regards,

    Konrad

I too bought a 2005 t5 ex ambo from nsw, had for six months now and chuffed to bits with it, I love the fact it has all the airbags, reversing sensors, front fogs, alloys, etc, etc

Only problem ive had is with the exhaust manifold which ive had to have repaired and the ac needed toping up. I use mine for work so havent made many mods to it, what did you guys pay for your ex ambos??

Ive got a T4 but with a macron campers "A" frame type bed seat.

High quality work and brett is a very helpful bloke. No such thing as a quick phone call but is very willing to share his 15years experience with trakka with you on all aspects of motorhomes.
Im booked in to get the bed seat instaled in my new van and hopefully a few other bits and pieces.

I bought my van at the Gov car auctions in Sydney, I have also met a bloke here in Brisbane who bought at the same time I did. He has just completed a custom conversion he designed himself. Has a pop top installed on top of his mid roof, 20l hot water /60l cold water and a shower and toilet built into the rear of the van. I was very impressed with the workmanship that went into his van, all done on the Gold Coast , but then he told me how much it cost !! Still, he now has a very unique T5 in oz, and when I was having a look through it, at least 4 others stopped and wanted to do the same.
The only prob I've had with mine is a reverse sensor blowing, and the van had a "glitch" when it went into limp home mode, all sorted now. Very very happy with it so far

    Hi,

Not to hijack your bit on pop tops although I would be in the market, but which auction in Sydney did you use to acquire your ex ambo?

    Thanks
    Jonathan
