Oil and rubber don't mix. Certainly looks like a fair amount of contamination. I am not familiar with Transporters but I can't see it being different to other VWs. Cam cover gaskets will leak. So I'd start there.

Thanks, is there a way to clean the belt and area without removing the belt. I read that most degreasers is bad on rubber belts.. The has to be something i could use

You will probably have to remove the belt to replace the leaking seal anyway. Cleaning it wont stop the problem.

It'll either be the cam seal or the cam cover gasket.

You'll need to pull the belt to do the seal, so you'd be silly not to throw a timing belt kit and water pump at it while it's all apart.

Parts should be cheap and easy to get, since it's just an old Golf motor.

I wouldn't put anything on the belt that may degrade it further. Confirm where the leak is coming from but replace the belt as a matter of course.

Waterpump etc if you're feeling flush.

    Volkswagen Teile Katalog (Pats Catalog)

Look it up here yourself. Add your location to your personal details, the CIA aren't fussed with broken VWs. That way someone can point you to local suppliers if appropriate.
