    Question T5 headlight upgrades

    G'day all, first time poster, we have a T5 multivan & the headlights are woefull for such an expensive vehicle. I have seen a few pics of an upgraded set from the U.K. which have bi-xenon low beams in place of the halogen jobbies. I have already fitted a set of Hella bi-xenon drivelights into some nice plastic panels I bought from Vmaxx but I cannot justify the cost of the replacment headlight. Has anyone removed the headlights from a T5 ? I figure if I can get the hole light housing out I may be able to fit in so bi-xenon projectors from another VW model.
    BTW I have already fitted an aftermarket HID kit but I would rather have the projectors just for that neat finished look.

    Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hey Rod, if you haven't already done so, go to the Brickyard. They should be able to help out with the appropriate info. There's been a number of threads recently about the upgrade and some issues to watch out for.

    Interesting to note T5 upgrades
    Warning Lighting must comply to Australian design rules and meet DOT lighting requirements.
    UK has different lighting patterns to Australian driving light refractions within the lights.
    Hella Australia :
    has a code at the bottom of the lights to indicate refractions of where the light shows to direction .
    Passenger.. LHS -> -> ->
    Drivers side RHS -<- -> ->
    Optioned fog lights <- <-> ->
    If fitted from UK or Germany these lights need to comply to Australian design rules.
    In the event of an accident that results in an accident where the police require the DOT to inspect You could find your self without insurance on the other vehicle as this is a breech of your Insurance policy as to modifications out side of Manufactures specifications under AUS AS ruling's for compliance.
    After reports are complied to determine fault You could be charged with Dangerous driving, modified vehicle acts vary state to state but the rule is the same.
    Boring a hole in the back of a standard light still will not work as the bottom of the inside light frame itself has a different deflection pattern as opposed to fog lamps Glass pattern or now Poly carbonate lighting has the same pattern but with a different pattern with Fog lamps.
    You also require the optional switch be it on the dash board or on the column stalk wiring is set for plug and go.
    Be warned Duty of care the onus is on you.
