Picked up my own VCDS cable from Guy today, so will be playing with this quite a bit over the next few days. Be coding a number of the additional features found on othe VWs and post the results somwhere here .....

Played a bit with some other settings (like auto window closing when it rains) and did some research ....

Turns out the T5.2's Actual Steering wheel controller 5K0 959 542 sits in 09: Cent. Elect. and not in Address 16: Steering wheel which is different than any other VW to date ..... which means coding will not be straightforward. I'll engage Ross-Tech to help a bit as well.

Having taken delivery of 2 x Transporter Crew Van 132kw 4Motion DSG at work (one optioned with MF display) I realized I made a mistake not ordering this option on my van.
So with this in mind I decided to find a way to get at a minimum the MF steering wheel to control the stereo.

Found a steering wheel with MF and paddle shifts. Removed the stock wheel and fitted the new leather and MF wheel. Feels much nicer than the stock plastic one. Airbag is a perfect fit but the stock harness does not connect to the MF wheel. Time to source a new Airbag harness with MF interface. Found the right harness and fitted. At the moment I have taken one step backwards with no MF functionality and no horn. Airbag is all working but need to get the car hooked up to computer to see what can be activated.

Are they short wheel base models?

    Yes, SWB.

Some good news today. Verified that the MF module for the Cruise control etc is the same part number as my non MF displayed van.

tried fitting the new steering wheel to the van that already has the MF display. And success, the paddles worked with no programming.
So had a look under the steering column cover and spotted one small difference. The module (round) that sits right behind the steering wheel is the same part number but for the last didgit, in this case my non MF display unit ends in F and the MF display unit ends in G.
Now to see if I can buy this part for a reasonable cost.

    Today i am very happy
After many months working on this project and with some very good help I have now successfully installed my MF steering wheel on my non MF display Transporter.
Only the left steering wheel control is working which controls the stereo and the gear shift paddles as I do not have a MF instrument cluster. But this gives me control of the station selection, volue and mute. With the paddles I can shift gear at any time in any gear mode, D, S or manual.
A bit of reprogramming is necessary but very simple via Ross Tech.
    Very happy with this result.

Sounds like you were very determined to get this sucker working , very good outcome over a long time span . I suppose the features would be handy but for me changing gears in an auto is not a priority . I would agree that the holding of gears downhill in the DSG is a pain , I just wish that VW would stick a "normal "auto in their models and leave the DSG style auto as an option rather than standard . I just keep getting this uneasy feeling that the DSG is going to be a problem later , ours has only done 800 kms and Friday it did something weird I reversed out stopped with foot on brake and put it into drive and there was no drive ?? it just rolled backwards downhill I stopped again had waited several seconds after selecting D before trying to drive forward it took two re shifts to get it to actually move .

I ordered my MY13 with the MFD2 and leather MFSW. When it arrived it was missing the MFSW They tried fitting one at the dealer but couldn't get it working. They agreed to give me the wheel so that I could get it working.

    Small issues:
    - Require VAGCOM for coding - Done
    - Different wheel harness - Done

    Big issues:
    - No power wiring is running to the wheel (slip ring/clock spring)
    - No LIN data cable running to the wheel
    - No fuse or fuse terminals are fitted to the vehicle

The wheel is fitted but controls aren't working.
Next step is try and find part numbers for the fuse box terminals and the terminals for the power and LIN cables at the back of the slip ring.

Trying to use the MFD with only the up/down and OK buttons on the wiper stalk is a PITA! Whoever decided to put the OK button at the bottom of the stalk should have their arse kicked!!

That was nice of them to give it to you.........considering you paid for it.
SO it came with the MFD still.....but no wheel?
