2011 T5 DSG dropping gear? WTF HELP?

Just to give a little background....

about a week ago while driving i heard a pretty loud clunk during a gear shift (DSG in D mode) but thought nothing of it figuring perhaps it was just a stick or something, but loud enough to register my attention at the time.

working all last week driving around the north shore and no issues. yesterday with nothing. today took the van about 5km to my auntshouse to help her with some yard work and then coming home went via the shops less than 1 km from home. pull out of carpark about to turn onto main road and all of a sudden the van sounds like it's in neutral, no power revs up to about 2.2k rpm showing D in MFD then suddenly shows D2 and power back on. travel about 10m back to D with no power. approaching roundabout... nothing changes I shift in to N then back to S rolling and suddenly it goes to S1 then S then S2 and back to S just kicking the van along in little bunny hops like a learner in a manual. i turn the corner and pull over (first chance without causing traffic chaos) turn off van and start again. same thing, but it got into D4 at about 36km/h then shifting up and down with the D popping in between.

NRMA has just been and suggested having it towed to the dealer on monday morning first thing. He hooked it up to his VAGCOM thing and it showed no faults in either engine or transmission. but when he hopped in and revved it up it cut out at 2000rpm (rev limiter?) and with his foot on the brake would not move even when revved hard (not sure what kind of test this was)

my warranty runs out in 15 days - please I need advice on what this means!

I've got a video of the MFD/DASH of it.

What it means is DO NOT let the dealer give you any mumbo jumbo about oh its normal operation or it was just a hiccup , bull**** it is not normal get every thing you can in writing and please , keep us informed as I am also skeptical about the DSG reliability I have already at only 1500 km had one episode of not engaging gear after backing out of driveway and then stopping put into drive and backwards we go twice before it decides that I am going forward . I read somewhere that the DSG is like a computer submerged in a vat of boiling oil . There are many owners who have had DSG longer than myself who have not had issues but as the first models are now approaching end of warranty it seems that there could be some nasty surprises coming Google VW DSG problems and you will find the problems faced around the world with the DSG . I am aware that there are multiple types of the DSG dry clutch and wet clutch If you read this and scroll down to see different issue around the world Direct-Shift Gearbox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

T5 DSG dropping gear? WTF HELP?

    From Wikipedia

In August 2009, Volkswagen of America issued two recalls of DSG-equipped vehicles. The first involved 13,500 vehicles,[22] and was to address unplanned shifts to the neutral gear,[22] while the second involved similar problems (by then attributed to faulty temperature sensors) and applied to 53,300 vehicles.[22][23][24] These recalls arose as a result of investigations carried out by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),[25] where owners reported to the NHTSA a loss of power whilst driving.[22] This investigation preliminary found only 2008 and 2009 model year vehicles as being affected.[22][25]

Other markets, such as Volkswagen group Australia, are yet to admit this being a widespread issue and refuse to offer similar recall programs as their US counterparts, even though multiple reports of similar incidents and failures have occurred.[citation needed]
Well this is a kick in the nuts if its something like this, anyone know what was done in the USA recalls? Any Aussie Vw dsg drivers here want to relate dealings with this issue?

T5 DSG dropping gear? WTF HELP?

Hey bud, it's a different box in my car but I had a very similar thing happen, I however got the sequentially flashing gear indicator and spanner, I only had all my even hears too because the piece of crap mechatronics had over extended the k1 clutch piston, which in turn in a nice warm gearbox, jammed the clutch actuator in the selected position and once cooled down and reset, it couldn't naturally spring back. I digress!

I'm currently in a warranty/legal battle with one Mr Simpson who has a beautiful tact of lies and deceit, based out of VGA in Sydney. They have tries to blame the ecu tune, which might have flown except for when the mechatronics unit deteriorated so much that if R was selected, the car went forwards and vice versa!

If your initial dealer doesn't play ball, go elsewhere is my first recommendation. Their diagnostic equipment will be able to pick up issues that NRMA can't but know this:

My car sat at Burwin VW for 5 weeks and they never figured out the problem because they relied on what the computer said. Volkspower however (who gave me an independent expert opinion and a sh*tloa better customer service) had it sorted after a day. All it took was a tap with a hammer.

Makes you wonder further to the Wiki article there is mention that VW even went as far as to tell a Swedish company not to buy a certain model VW because of issues with autos if used as taxis read this .
Quote VW Sweden stopped selling the Passat EcoFuel DSG as a taxi after many cars had problems with the DSG gearbox. They instead offered the Touran EcoFuel DSG, which is using a different model of the DSG gearbox [33]
Yes I know its a different beast to what is in the vans but as I have said before VW cannot seem to work out which auto is the best first DSG 6 speed wet clutch then DSG 7 speed dry clutch and apparently another one for higher engine performance plus an 8 speed non DSG auto for the Amarok . When you read the specs it seems that they are trying to get faster smoother changes and sprout on about how fast it can change , I find ours is a nuisance downhill if you start from the top rolling it will hold a gear then if you accelerate it will change up take your foot off and it changes down with a rise in engine revs almost like being in a too low a gear of a manual .

well mine has never had an ECU tune although it was something i looked into when i first got it.
always serviced at my local VW dealer (McCarrolls Hornsby) but bought from Regional NSW dealer (Orange) as a New Demo model. 8000km on clock at time of purchase with 2yrs remaining on warranty. initial 15000 km interval performed at 8000km as part of sale.
    15000km done again on schedule then 30000 & 45000.
a short time after last service the EGR valve went and van was off the road for 10 days while this was diagnosed and fixed.
    currently on 53000ish km.

T5 DSG dropping gear? WTF HELP?

So the van was towed to dealer first thing Monday morning, but nothing was done until the arvo. Apparently it was in with the tech and they would let me know ASAP what he found later that afternoon but I got no call back.
Rang back at lunch today but service guys were unavailable. They called me back 20 minutes ago to explain.
Van was Hooked up to diagnostic and showed no faults. Van was taken for drive and fault was experienced. They want to hold it for further testing.
At least it did it when they tested it, I gave it a 300m test drive before the tow truck came Monday and it shifted fine 1-4 gear. I was worried it wouldn't show, offered the video I shot but they said they would take my word for it.

What do you guys think? Where do I go from here.

Start taking note of every phonecall, every person you spoke to (even if just to say someone else will call back).

After every verbal on the issue, ask for that in writing.

It might be resolved and no more issues, it might be an ongoing nightmare, thus, be armed with details VW won't have.

Consider if your current dealer is a good one, seems to be a few which are notorious for fobbing off issues.

Intermittant faults can sometimes be hard to rectify.

Hopefully the fault is known to VW with this transmission, and that there's a known fix.

    All the best with it.
